The YikeBike seems like a great solution for urban dwellers who need a small, eco-friendly mode of transportation that they can take pretty much anywhere. It’s an electric, engineering marvel, which weighs 22lbs, folds up very compactly, but which still goes up to 15.5mph and fully recharges in 40 minutes. I wish I could ride one of these to work.

This clock is brilliant. It’s even more well-designed than it would seem at first glance, with swappable faceplates of different colors that are held on by magnets for easy switching, an ambient light sensor that changes the brightness of the letters to match their surroundings, There’s even a 99 cent iPhone app, which is a lot more reasonably priced than the physical version ($1500-$1600).

MoviePeg.   New window
Date: Friday, 02 Apr 2010 08:18

I received a MoviePeg to test out today, and I’ve found it to be an ingenious little invention… While most companies are making pretty awesome full-fledged iPhone stands that look like tiny Apple monitor stands, or that wrap around other objects to position themselves, MagneticNorth has created an iPhone stand that is completely unique and highly portable.

Once you’ve seen it in action, you’ll wonder how you didn’t come up with this idea yourself! It’s just a well designed piece of plastic that can be positioned wherever you’d like to place it on your phone. Where you place it controls the angle of the phone. It’s that simple. I used it tonight to hold my phone while I made biscuits in the kitchen. Some of the batter got on the MoviePeg, and that’s when I realized one of its other major strengths: It wipes clean with no problem. Awesome.

MoviePeg comes in an array of colors, and is available for £4.99 (around $7).

Silicone tape is an amazing thing, from all accounts that I’ve heard. It doesn’t stick to anything but itself, but boy, does it ever stick to itself (if you let it touch itself accidentally, it starts to fuse together immediately). For hose/pipe leaks around the house, electrical work, wrapping splices and a whole lot more, it’s super useful.

I haven’t tried to thread a needle in a long time, but I know that it can be extremely difficult, especially if you’re using a small needle for fine work. Generally, you’d use a device made of thin wire to thread the needle, but the Spiral eye needle aims to solve this problem by changing the problem at the source: the head of the needle. Now your thread side-loads but stays securely in place, and needles can be threaded with a minimum of effort. Sounds great to me!

Glitch.   New window

Once upon a time, a few people got together to create an online game called Game Neverending. Many people loved it, but it never really took off. However, all was not lost. The photo-sharing part of the app was turned into a little service called Flickr, which eventually became rather large, very popular, and was sold to Yahoo for 30 million. Eventually, the founders of Flickr left Yahoo, and have been pretty silent for awhile. Just yesterday, though… they announced that they’ve come full circle, and have been busy building an online game called Glitch. I’m super-excited about this. It looks like it’s going to be an awesome game! And just think… even if it isn’t successful (by all accounts it will be, though!), maybe it’ll produce another great app as a by-product.
