Jibbering Session @ Hare and Hounds, Sat 5th July
Another barnstormer of a night for you...
Bison are back in Brum!
Last time Bison
graced Jibbering with a performance, the dancefloor descended into
sheer mayhem... a sea of broken glass, moshers and stage divers
greeted this Sheffield based 10 piece beast of a Ska band. Their
potent brew of blazing brass, rocking ska riffs and funkadelic
nonsense never fail to rock the dance!
Bison will be joined on stage by Soul Syndicate, a Hereford based outfit fusing hip hop,
ragga and dancehall vibes into a killer dancefloor set featuring
conscious rap and sweet melodic vocals. There live PAs are becoming
highly respected and they have recently secured support slots for
Skitz and Million Dan!
In the Courtyard, we will have Funkbox, dropping the best in classic and contemporary funk. They will be joined by one of the Uks finest funk n hiphop DJs: Tuf Kut.
All in all a killer of line up!

This saturday, we have another belting line up designed purely for your partying sensibilities!!
On the live side of proceedings we have lined up a set from the fantastic Munchbreak (http://www.munchbreak.com). Their unique blend of funk and hiphop never fails to please.
We have also arranged for a unique and special collaboration between the Dhol Blasters and Munchbreak. The result of this will be a total surprise but for the time being i think we should refer to it as bangra-funk-hop!
We are also delighted to announce one of our favourite DJs and Producers, the one and only, JStar (http://www.myspace.com/jstarmusic). His reggae and hiphop mash ups have become stuff of legend and his DJ sets are in demand throughout the world. This is a very rare chance to catch him in Birmingham so do not miss out!!
As if that is not enuff, we have also roped in our good friend DJ Rubbish to come spin some rootsical beats and treats and to inevitably chat some stuff on the mic! Furthermore, the Jam Jah Soundsystem (http://www.myspace.com/jamjahsound) and the Jibbering DJs will be operating in full effect!

Our next exhibition is probably the most fascinating and relevent art project that Jibbering has had the pleasure in hosting. Exhibition is probably the wrong word to describe Digital Is Dangerous (http://www.digitalisdangerous.co.uk) , a campaign aimed to stimulate thought, debate and discussion about the ways in which the sudden, relentless and ever accelerating tide of digital media has over every aspect of our lives. Phone cameras, i-pods, downloads and emails almost define this modern world in which we live and the effects permeate every aspect of society.
Over a two week period from the 1st of May, artists Chirs Poolman and Keir Williams will be running a series of events and activities from our beloved and endangered oasis of analogue; the antithesis of the digital world; one of the few remaining bastions of vinyl!
Activities Include:
Digital
Is Dangerous! Protest
Digital
V Analogue Debate
Record
collectors captured in a portraiture Style
The
I-pod long-play
Live
on the launch night 1st May 7.30pm at
Jibbering:
The
Goldmine Record Grading Game Finals: Record collectors will compete
against each other to grade 20 records of varying states as
accurately as possible. E.g Mint, Perfect, Very Good etc.
The
Human Sound System
The
world’s first Dub Quiz ft Pablo Ryder – Reggae MC Dub Quiz
master. Catergories of questions will include world music, reggae,
hip hop and funk. (9pm start)
This promises not only to be a lot of fun, it also will be challenging the world in which we now find ourselves!

Live Every Day Like It Was Your Last
An Exhibition by Glenn Anderson
Fri 21st Mar- 29th April 2008
Glenn
Anderson
is possibly the most modest and elusive of artists we’ve come
across. Making marks is his background and he has become an artist
in serious demand and would never tell anyone about the corporates he
has in his back pocket!
He
is also well travelled with his art, visiting L.A. with “Beat 13”
at “Lab 101” but he generally strays from galleries and so we are
exceptionally privileged to have him exhibit in the shop.
Glenn’s
aerosol constructions are fresh and vibrant, his pencil technique
incredibly intricate and the form of all his masterpieces are
gorgeous.
The 12th
exhibition at the shop is as exciting as ever. All the artwork is
affordable, with canvases, boards and prints available for sale.

A Few Crucial Gigs...
Over this weekend there are several gigs and happenings that everyone should be made fully aware of. So, read on, spread the word and hope to see ya out and about during the next few days...
Jibbering's Valentine Jam @ Bulls Head Thur 14th Feb.
Yes, Jibbering is going to get romantic on your ass! Cro is at present dustin off his smoochy soul, Robin's diggin out his Lovers Rock and i'm, well, writing this and wondering what the hell i'm going to play! Seriously though, should be an ace night of choice tunes and probably the least cheesy valentines night anywhere in Brum!
YT (http://www.myspace.com/ytreggae) (LIve) @ Hare n Hounds Fri 15th Feb
What an absolute treat of a night this one's going to be. YT is the UK's premier reggae vocalist whose debut album, Straight Outta Britain has been smashed at Jibbering and Jam Jah nights for ages. On Friday, he'll be performing live on stage with his full live band. If his show at Shambala 2007 was anything to go by this will be a truly blinding gig
Crate Escape Label Launch @ The Yardbird Fri 15th Feb
A special Funkbox night celebrating the launch of our very own Richard Cro Crowson's record label. His first EP of unreleased demo recordings of rapper, Kurious, have been selling like hotcakes- see previous blog entry!
This night will be a top mix of funk and hip hop. Expect a fair bit of Kurious to be played as well as exclusives from forthcoming releases on Crate Escape Records!
The Mekons (http://www.myspace.com/mekons) (Live) @ Hare n Hounds Sat 16th Feb
A truly rare chance to see this 8 piece live act perform their unique blend of twisted folk punk pop! There is a support band as well but that will have to remain a surprise. Also featuring Dj support from Rafiki (jibbering).
Date: Friday, 08 Feb 2008 15:22

As 2007 draws to a close, we thought it would be nice to have a little look back over the year's releases and pick out the best of what has been a great year for music! So here it is... Jibbering's Top 5 of 2007...
1. G Corp meets The Mighty Tree Dubplates from the Elephant House (Endulge)
This is the finest Birmingham album of 2007. Under the
guidance of Jah Grizzly at the controls many highly accomplished
musicians (Jaffa + Moses of Crucial Music, and Conrad Kelly of Steel
Pulse and UB40) contribute to produce a stunning dub/reggae album. As if that wasn’t enough the CD is complemented by a
limited edition Caribbean cookbook!
2. Orchestra Baobab Made In Dakar (World Circuit)
Five years on from the GRAMMY nominated
'Specialist in All Styles', Orchestra Baobab return with 'Made in
Dakar', an album that celebrates their roots in one of the world's
most explosive musical cities. It updates their classic mellow
sound with a new edge and energy for new times. Beautifully
recorded in Dakar's Xippi studios, combining the gritty lo-fi feel of
their early recordings with dynamic new arrangements.
3. The Haggis Horns Hot Damn! (First Word)
The Haggis Horns are an eight piece
live funk extravaganza combining heavy breakbeat, funk, soul, reggae
and afrobeat with the virtuosity of trained jazz musicians. This is
easily one of the heaviest hitting funk albums of the year from the
band that backs Mark Ronson when he is in the UK… hearty fayre
indeed!
4. The Quantic Soul Orchestra Tropidelico (Tri Thoughts)
Quantic’s latest album is a product of years of
digging and gigging across the globe. It is tropical, rhythmic, heavy
and will stand the test of time. From South American Cumbias to
J-Live on a Cuban lick, and from intricate afrobeat to a tribute to
Holland’s late father, this album is a stunning listen!
5. Various Artists Rumble In The Jungle (Soul Jazz)
Everybody loves a bit of Jungle bells at
Christmas! This is a great collection that traces the roots of
jungle back to 80’s dancehall; looks at the influence of ragga in
hip-hop; and has Zinc’s classic “Super Sharp Shooter” as nearly
the newest joint on it. Run these tunes in the right environs
and watch it kick off. You remember the junglist scene- akin to a
religious experience at times!
