Has anyone used Channel Sources WEBSITE COMPLETE - 71000?
It claims "Easily Build and Host Your Website on Your Own PC Never pay web hosting fees again. With Website Complete you can have a fully functional, ready to use website complete with email, online catalogue and shopping cart - in 30 minutes. And there's no programming required. You build your website with point and click ease. And because you do it yourself, you pay no design, upgrade or hosting fees - ever! Your website is totally customizable and expandable, again with point and click ease. So when you make changes or additions they're live immediately. "
We are currently hosting a site/shopping cart/forum through godaddy using their site building software but this sounds like an alternative that wouldn't add on extra fees for every feature!
Just don't want to jump into anything. All ideas welcome!
Keep in mind we are novices.
Thanks!

How many times you have changes your web host till now?
Date: Friday, 20 Nov 2009 16:10
Hey,
I embed yahoo's music videos on my web site and have recently received an email from a group called ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Artists and Performers) telling me I have to pay them money for embedding the videos. While I told them that I was embedding the videos from Yahoo, they said it didn't matter and that I would have to pay them anyway.
The person from ASCAP stated:
"Yahoo's current license agreement with us
does not authorize the performance of ASCAP music on third party websites
using their embedded videos. Under copyright law, any website that streams
copyrighted music needs either permission from the copyright owner, or a
license from a representing society, such as ASCAP. Whether the content is
hosted is irrelevant since the performance is experienced under your URL,
and continuing to stream copyrighted music without a license is considered
an infringement."
And then when I told him that Yahoo allows me to embed it (it has an embed code for videos) he told me:
"Yahoo can choose to allow their videos to be embedded, however, it is the
responsibility of the third party website for the content that they are
embedding. Not all videos have copyrighted material. As of now, Yahoo's
license agreement does not authorize the streaming of ASCAP music over
third party sites that Yahoo does not own or control."
So I have to pay money to embed Yahoo's videos? Is this correct?
I've been trying to find how to contact Yahoo Videos and ask but every email I send to Yahoo just tells me that "this department isn't responsible for Yahoo Videos." If you don't know if I have to pay money for these videos, can someone at least show me where to contact Yahoo Videos and to actually get a response?
@Pwinces - unfortunately, that wouldn't solve my problem.. IF they don't like me embedding from Yahoo, do you think they'd really be happy if I just hosted the videos myself?
@Kevin D - That's what I'd like to do, but I wish Yahoo would somehow give me verification that it is okay. My worry with calling their bluff is that I don't really want to spend 350$ (The amount they want) if I fail :-\.

THREE DOG BAKERY: Understanding Cost Terms
“Going to the dogs” has been good for Mark Beckloff and Dan
Dye. Back in 1989, they founded the first bakery just for fourlegged
canine friends with little more than the desire to satisfy
the finicky palate of their beloved 114-pound, deaf Great Dane, peanut butter, and carob, and have clever names such as
Rollovers, Pup Tarts, Scottie Biscottis, and Great Danish. Some
treats are even frosted with honey-yogurt icings and decorated
with colorful, edible flourishes. Special-occasion carrot or
carob cakes can be personalized by an in-store pastry chef. The
company regularly updates its 100+ product line to entice doglovers
everywhere back to the stores again and again. Selling
prices range from a few cents for a small biscuit to more than
$20 for a special-order cake.
Three Dog Bakery has an 80,000-square-foot warehouse in
Kansas City, containing manufacturing, distribution, and corporate
offices, that prepares 70% of the goods sold. Except
for slow summer months, the manufacturing operation runs
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, producing baked biscuits and
carob-dipped items that can pack and ship well. There is one
main assembly line with stations for mixing ingredients, mechanized
cutting of shapes, extruding doughnut-shaped biscuits,
placing biscuits on baking sheets, baking in ovens, cooling,
carob-dipping (for selected biscuits), hand-packing into trays
or containers, shrink-wrapping, and boxing. Most trays hold 12
specialty biscuits that are hand-packed. A conveyer belt is
used for automated packing of small biscuits into 7-ounce tubs.
Employees are cross-trained to perform multiple assembly-line
functions and can work on every type of product produced at
the plant.
For the remaining 30% of finished goods, each store has a specially
outfitted kitchen used for preparing cakes, brownies, tarts,
and other delicate or frosted items. Prepackaged mixes created
back at the production facility are used to assure consistent quality
across all stores. The retail outlets also sell nonfood products
such as bowls, leashes, books, mugs, and T-shirts. Some stores
even host “yappie hours” and in-store birthday parties for dog
socialization. Customers don’t have to visit a Three Dog Bakery to
enjoy the treats, however. The company has a whimsicalWeb site
atwww.threedog.com that is home to the “dogalog” (well, it can’t
be called a “cat-alog,” can it?). The site features all kinds of treats
available for immediate shipping and accounts for 10% of the company’s
business now. In addition to its retail and e-commerce
channels, Three Dog Bakery places heavy emphasis on its
expanding wholesale business. The products were originally
offered through national chains, such as PetsMart and Target, but
are now finding success with high-end grocery stores that have
lost much of their pet business to “big box” specialty pet stores
and want a higher-end quality product to offer their shoppers.
EvenWal-Mart can’t ignore the appeal of Three Dog Bakery products.
Dog lovers can find Lick ’n Crunch Cookies on the shelves
there.
Gracie. The small venture has grown from a single store in
downtown Kansas City to more than 40 locations worldwide,
including Japan and Korea. Their dog treats are made from
wholesome ingredients such as flour, eggs, carrots, spinach, Annual revenues exceed $20 million for this privately held
company. As for the pet market itself, there are more than 60
million pet dogs in the United States alone, with nearly every
owner buying anywhere from one to five packages of treats
per month. Two-thirds of pet owners give their pets gifts, more
than half give Christmas presents, and 25% give birthday gifts.
Pet owners spend in excess of $20 billion each year in an
industry that includes animal products, food, and services.
Owners who spend more than $300 per year on their dogs tend
to be younger, more affluent, married, and have no children.
Q U E S T I O N S
1. To what cost objects could Three Dog Bakery trace its costs?
2. Classify the following cost items as direct (D) or indirect (I),
and fixed (F) or variable (V) with respect to the production
department (you will have two answers for each item—D
or I; F or V):
Cost Item D or I F or V
a. Salary of the production department
manager who oversees manufacturing
b. Salaries of founders Dan Dye and
Mark Beckloff
c. Cardboard trays used to package sets
of 12 specialty biscuits
d. Salary of the Web graphics designer
who prepares the online dogalog
illustrations and layout
e. Annual maintenance service agreement
for the conveyer belt
f. Wages paid to assembly line workers
who mix Scottie Biscotti ingredients
in batches
g. Utilities (water, electricity, waste) for
the entire Kansas City warehouse
h. Cost of flour, eggs, and honey-yogurt
icing for the Pup Tarts
3. What sectors—manufacturing, merchandising, or service—
does Three Dog Bakery operate in? W

Do any Graphic Designers out there have a favored Web Host to build thier online portfolio with? Preferably a payed sight, that can be used to design your own templates, etc.

I was thinking of a way to make some money and most of all, host my own website for free, essentially. The idea was to buy some web space from a hoster like GoDaddy or Bluehost, and split the cost between some customers which would be people I personally know.
Is this legal? What is the proper terminology to describe what I want to do so that I can check with the hosts themselves?

I am looking for an application of some sort, that I can put on a web server, and edit the local website. I have many clients, and not all of the hosting companies have html editors, and not all clients want to spend $400 on Dreamweaver.
I know about products like CoffeeCup, but I want it to be web-based and wysiwyg. Any suggestions?
I have Dreamweaver, and do all the editing myself, but I have far too many clients to continue this trend. Most of them want the updates immediately, which I cannot always promise.
And I do charge for the development time, but the headache outweighs the added revenue. I want to build a company's website, and turn it over to them.

I am looking into getting my own website for my little business but I am not a very "technical" person, so I need a little help. I know I have to buy my own domain and I have to get a web hosting, what I do not understand is this: Do I have to get my domain with the same company I get my web hosting or it can be separated? Also, will I get charged extra by my hosting company if my domain is from somewhere else? I know for most people this is pretty obvious, but not for me. I appreciate all the help you can give me. Thanks!

A lot of bands and netlabels will put an entire album online for free download. Assuming I had a website, how would I go about actually putting the mp3's on the website for free download?
If my web host does not allow me enough space to host the mp3's, then what? Is there a free website out there that allows musicians to upload full albums of music for download?
Thanks. As an extra question... How do you put files into a ZIP file?

I'm not a beginner at web design, more like intermediate. I've spent many years using html to create elaborate sites but that is really outdated now. I've recently been maintaining an art site that uses an online site generator. Unfortunately, it is much too restricting.
Are there any good programs for download or buying that are relatively inexpensive (I really can't afford Adobe Dreamweaver). I'd like something that is media-geared rather than business-geared because I am mainly hosting my artwork. Anything would be appreciated.
Also, flash programming would be awesome, but I''ve never used flash before so it would have to be simple. My current site is http://sweetappletea.webnode.com so you can get an idea but I'd like a little more versatility with my gallery and templates.
