This is the brochure cover I created for the Unitarian Universalist church in Banreveld, NY. Built in in 1816, it's the oldest Unitarian church in the United States west of the Hudson River. The congregation is a mix of those raised Unitarian and those who've drifted in from various and sundry. No thumping on a Bible, the emphasis is on justice, equality and compassion. The brochure interior was designed by Julia Morrisey, a former NYC ad agency art director, she taking the look established by my cover and carrying it throughout, most ably.

I'm very happy with the job Bruce Hilvitz did on this signed and numbered silkscreen edition of 100 for Water Row Press. My work aside, this is one gorgeous print, Bruce being a master craftsman, having worked with many great artists, including R. Crumb. Also, a big thank you to Jeffrey Weinberg and Water Row Press for making this happen!   Prints are available via Water Row Press' site.

Two recent jobs, one for The Wall Street Journal, the other for CIO magazine, both incorporating approaches I've been using in my personal work.

For today's Wall Street Journal, an illustration re how It's now easier to trade mutual funds on the go, as brokerages introduce apps. Is this availability such a smart idea? Well... The top illo is the one used; the image below is one of several others I submitted. These days my MO has been to send in two to four virtual finishes as sketches. Working digitally, this is the easiest way for me to convey ideas. Usually, one of the batch is good, either as is or with minor changes.

This year I've been working for Jeffrey Weinberg's Water Row Press. They're the tiny publisher of big names: Jack Kerouac, William Burroughs, Charles Plymell, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Charles Burns, Gary Panter, Mark Beyer, R. Crumb, Charles Bukowski, Allen Ginsberg, et al. Among other things, I've done a few differently colored versions of this little beatnik for them. He pops up here and there: a logo, on a mug, in a promotional piece, on a T-shirt. The bigger news is that Water Row Press will be publishing a limited edition, hardcover and illustrated, collection of my short stories, "Like a 45 on 33." It should be out in 2011.
