xiffy: Pakjesavond. Twee stuks, een stuur en een voorbouw. En wat is die lang. #Fixie

Vrijdag eindelijk weer eens naar de film geweest, de donkere dagen en IDFA voor de deur, en dan is het nog maar even voordat het IFFR weer losbarst. Dus het bioscoopbloed begint weer langzaam te pompen.
Een blik op het lijstje films wat we konden gaan zien maakte de keuze eenvoudig, Terribly happy zou het worden. Dit Deense staaltje filmkunst had onze aandacht al via de krantenrecensies weten te wekken.
En het was een goeie film, vakkundig werd er een verhaal verteld waar je stukje bij beetje werd ingezogen, je zocht samen met de hoofdrolspeler antwoorden. De wereld achter het gezapige dorpje krijgt gaandeweg een gezicht. Het is een gezicht dat je doet denken aan 'Fargo' van de Coen-brothers, maar ook aan 'the League of Gentlemen'. En de politieman uit de grote stad past zich langzaam aan. Leert de plaatselijke mores en wint langzaam een plaats in de gemeenschap. Een gemeenschap waar hij niet wil zijn, maar hij is overgeplaatst vanuit Kopenhagen en hem is er alles aan gelegen om zo snel mogelijk weg te komen uit het stadje op Jutland. Waarom hij Kopenhagen moest verlaten en wat hij achter heeft moeten laten wordt ook langzaam ontrafeld, door de dorpsgenoten.

Today i learned how one can detach a running process on linux or unix from the terminal. I know that you can do this on purpose by putting a ampersand: & behind the command. But that was not the question. You see i had a process running at 17:00 hours and it would take another hour before it was done. I wanted to go home before 18:00 yet i did not want to interrupt the process because it should finish. So CTRL-C was not an option.
But you can tell linux to detach the process from the terminal, you just do this simple steps

• CTRL-Z (no this will not harm the process)
• bg n

Where n is the job number that linux returns after you hit CTRL-Z. Linux will continue the process in the background (bg) and you can close the terminal session.

One of the highlights of our New Zealand holiday was a whalewatching trip at Kaikoura. The boat was completely booked, the weather for change stunning, cold, but no wind and sun. We had been warned that it could get rough, but we were the lucky ones. We sighted three whales and each dive was great. The tail rises above the sea and the whale quickly dives back to the depths. At that very moment all the cameras clicked and clicked until only a last wrinkle was left in the waves.

On one of our trips we went penguin watching. The main goal of this trip was the little blue penguin that can be found near Akaroa.
We've seen these penguins as well, but it was rather dark and too far away so the photos turned out bad. The night was saved by three Fiordland crested penguins that were wandering on the rocks and cliffs.

The first photos have been uploaded to flickr. Today I was busy wading my email while waiting for the panoramas to render. This one i rendered for over four times and eventually stayed with the result Hugin gave me.

Today some riding along the river. Just at the end i remembered i had to shoot a video.

I took some better pictures (although not great) from my converted Batavus, currently known as 'xiffy brick'. Today i took this bike to work and it was an excellent ride. I'm slowly getting used to braking and slowing down, but it's still not easy. Other curious things that happened the last days showed how automatically i ride a bike. Getting on is easy, but stepping on pedal and pushing off with the other leg is not an option. My left leg rose before i could swing my right leg over the saddle.

Vandaag twee uurtjes knutselen met Toby van Fllon Bikes om de wielen erin te zetten, de ketting op lengte te krijgen, de rem weer vast en erder afwerken.
Wat er ove blijft is opnieuw leren fietsen (vooral remmen eigenlijk). Binnenkort nog wat beter fotomateriaal, maar deze wilde ik vast laten zien.

It still holds that phone-cameras perform best when it's sunny. Yet i like it a lot and wish my first digital camera performed this well.

This is the colour and in black the sticker which i ordered and i hope will be good enough to fix it on the frame.

Eind mei op bezoek in zonnig Naarden, vervelende van zo'n festival, ze hebben liever niet dat je fotografeert.
