I use Bibble 5 preview version 2.2c. Yeah I wish it was an open source project, but at least they have great linux support!

I bought a license for BibblePro. For me, I don't have a problem about Bibble being proprietary. So is Photoshop, Lightroom, and a lot of professional tools you'd be spending money for photography anyway. Anyway, I think it's the best out there, better than all of the free tools for Linux that I've tried. And is worth every penny I paid for it.

I use GIMP for the rest of my post-processing work.

Hope it helps.

I use gThumb to transfer photos from camera to computer, LightZone to edit photos, and F-Spot to tag them.

Note: LightZone is commercial. Its interface takes some getting used to. However, I would recommend it as a program specially made for photo editing. They offer 30-day trials on www.lightcrafts.com.

petxis posted a reply:

Hey,

I found your post trying to capture a timelapse with ubuntu and gphoto.

I am using a nikon D40 and managed to make it work but it wouldn't work using the command you are using.

First, I didn't want to use gphoto as root so I didn't use "sudo".

This command worked for me:

gphoto2 --capture-image --interval "6" --hook-script

So the short form of the command you used didn't work for me. Also I had to enclose the parameters in inverted comas "6" and not 6.

I can only capture on jpg for some reason. Can't make it work on raw.

I know you are using a canon so this might not apply to you but try it, maybe you get lucky.

regards.

a.

MB Event Horizon posted a new topic:

My camera works fine as far as connecting via USB to download photos. It auto-detects the camera and asks if I want to download photos. No prob.

But what I want to do now is make a time lapse.

I have used gphoto2 to trigger my camera. Again, no problem.

But when I use the command:

sudo gphoto2 --capture-image -I 3 -F 3

which should trigger 3 frames with 3 seconds in between frames, it captures one frame, and then just stalls.

This is my terminal output:

Time-lapse mode enabled (interval: 3s).
Capturing frame #1/3...
Detected a 'Canon:EOS 350D (normal mode)'.

That's when it stalls.

So I poked around A LOT, and some people say that things will work in PTP mode, so I changed my camera to use that instead of PC Connection.

So then I got this:

Camera LCD blinks with "Busy"

My terminal window displays:

Time-lapse mode enabled (interval: 3s).
Capturing frame #1/3...

*** Error ***
Sorry, your camera does not support generic capture
ERROR: Could not capture.
*** Error (-6: 'Unsupported operation') ***

Can someone help me get time lapse functionality with my camera?

The problem for me with Digikam is that it does not support versioning.

And Bible is proprietary. On another note, there is also RawTherapee, which is more or less "free".

sorry to arrive late to the party...

i shoot with a d200 and process via linux too.

digikam + gimp does it all for me. in fact the raw converter and editing features on digikam are so powerful for my everyday needs that i rarely need to go to gimp.

hope this helps.
