There was a DX/Map website that many people used that showed current or projected propagation... Black map with hot/cold type indicators. For the life of me I can't find it via google or yahoo. Quite a few people used this map...
Anyone sorta remember the web address or what I am could be talking about based on this limited information?

Looks like a very nice band opening on six meters this afternoon:
Real time QSO/SWL by band overview - NA
My station is not in the skip zone yet but should be interesting listening in the parts of the US that are.

not sure if this is the right area to post, my question is will these coronal mass ejections (which cause northern lights) have any affect on radio DX and Skip conditions? will there be greater, reduced or no change at all?
Edit: I believe the article just answered my question! lol (see 1st paragraph below the map) but input is still appreciated :)

What is your best FM DX...???
One of my best "catches" was many years ago in Novato, CA on a warm August day...I caught Floroda Highway Patrol TWO WAY DX on CHP Silver Base (42.08mhz) ...
The florida dispatcher asked her units to 10-9 because they were covered by California traffic (CHP)...I listened long enough to get a call sign, which verified via the FCC as the FHP...
This was roughly 30 years ago...I wish I had thought to send a QSL request...
FM skip is also knows as "ducting"...

One thing I have never been able to confirm, is a meteor scatter hit on an fm station. I'm sure it has happened to me, because I can remember a couple of times it happened before I knew what meteor scatter was, but now, I'm really curious about it. The concept is interesting to me.
First of all, I like listening to catch those momentary bursts of audio. I also like the process of researching to findout exactly which station I have picked up, but of course, the most atractive part of this is the stations I might possibly receive.
I don't have much as far as cash, but maybe I can find a likeminded friend in case the only affective way to pick these signals up is with expensive equipment or a big outdoor tower.
I'm hoping some folks here can give me some pointers on the best way to receive these meteor scatter catches. I read somewhere that you won't receive anything with just a telescopic whip. What if I climb this hill in my neighborhood? I go up there, and can pick-up multiple fm's from up to about 170 miles away as the crow flies on a regular basis. I use a Kaito ka1102 portable radio. I tilt it one direction and another, and can pick-up two or three stations on one frequency in many cases. Might climbing this hill help me?
I have also noticed that the best fm receivers by far are vehicle radios. A friend of mine said that you can even remove it from the car and it still receives that well, but I'm not sure, because I've never done that. I'm wondering if I find a friend with a car, I'm blind, so the state of Indiana hesitates to issue me a license, and we can hangout during a meteor shower. They can watch the sky while I tune the radio. Just my thoughts.
I'd like to hear yours. This is something I've never done before, and I am really eager to catch something. There's a shower in April coming up which is supposed to provide some fun.
Something else someone out there might be able to help me with, there's a comit passing near the earth in March. Will that comit's dust trail make contact with the earth? If so, when? That might be an even earlier shower which I could try to enjoy.

I have picked up Channel 2 Action news on 450.150. I looked up channel 2 news found they was out a Atlanta, I'm in central Alabama. Very odd its my first time hearing anything like this. I got about 3 segments of news, very cool stuff. Has anyone else heard them before?
I heard them on 2-4-13 @ 5:22, 5:28, & 6:59.

Not sure I am the right forum for this post? Today 1-21-13 I heard the STL (studio to transmitter link) for
KOA AM in Denver Colorado at about 1:50 pm EST. They were strong at times with no fading on 25.950 MHz
FM Mode. Heard a talk show, then Colorado Avalanche tickets being advertised then...VOILA! KOA ID

I was wondering when I hear skip on my scanner (VHF low and high) on the freqs that my city police or fire department use, do they hear the skip too? Since i'm hearing it, wouldn't they?
Date: Sunday, 06 Jan 2013 08:49
Twice I have heard skip on 154.415 from my home in Madison AL. On 12/23/12 around 1:45 AM I heard someone responding to some sort of incident on "Clear Road" and referring to dispatch as "1200". What I was hearing was pretty noisy, so I did not get any more details.
Yesterday around 3:00 AM I I heard "Central Fire" dispatching units to a roll over accident on Gladden Road. I did not hear any unit numbers and by the time I realized it was skip, I had forgot the name of the cross street.
Can anyone help me figure out where this skip is coming from? With help on the Alabama forum, I have found both a Gladden Road and a Clear Road in Hardin County TN, but 154.415 is not used there. It is used in McNairy County TN which is the next county west, but is on the wrong side of the TN River. This is most likely coming from southwest to northwest of Madison AL due to terrain and situations at home that causes directional reception to the west.
Thanks for the help!

With such a tight grip and their TV stations more then likely still analog, how does the Koreans deal with ducting? I'm curious If they ever seen TV from Seoul or any near by countries during the right conditions? Also, do we know how much power their TV stations send out? Probably lots and lots

I was sitting in the parking lot on break playing around with the car radio like I usually do, and came across WWVA 1170 (A usual hit I get)
I listened for a bit and there was a few seconds of silence between switching from commercials back to the program and in this brief period I was able to hear another station and catch "WAJR Morgantown" which I know is also in WV but on 1440am ( I have never even picked up this station on its normal frequency from where I live in north east NJ)
Has anybody ever heard this or a had similar situation?
Thanks :-)

Did my towers magically get a thousand feet tall and my multicoupler preamps go from 2.5 to 100 db gain yesterday, or is the ducting and atmosphere wacky?
I'm in West Central Illinois. Last night one of my local 154 MHz channels was covered up by fire traffic from Plainwell, Michigan. Verified the address and two cross streets on Google maps. This morning my personal 396 was locked on the 800 MHz Starcom control site 102 (Chicago, 300 miles away) with full tight squelch, four bars and readable traffic. I had to lock out quite a few sites from all over eastern and northern Illinois to get back to my local 238 tower.
My own VHF repeaters on the local public safety system were equally useless for parts of yesterday.
Weirdness. Anyone else seeing this or am I the lucky one?

Hi all,
anyone got any idea about the location of this one. US Mil traffic using callsigns "Texas 6" "Nevada 6" and "Louisiana 6" - female dispatcher heard regularly. Fair to good signal levels this afternoon here in Ireland.

Hi all,
had some spectacular Skip today with several signals being heard from Southern California - I wonder can anyone help identify the following which I think is
35.10000 103.5 PL KBO417 ACS Security Patrols, Los Angeles
recording here: https://www.box.com/s/mv0hldxkox7ltx6amukm
I also have another signal on 35.1 82.5 pl talking about "I'll load you for the border patrol station" - any ideas anyone?
The following was recorded on 35.36 D156 and seems to be making references to locations in Kingsburg, California - can anyone suggest what this is? Recording here:
https://www.box.com/s/5mrxnx63px8apldeqmrd
One that was identified straight off was 35.94000 173.8 PL WQGY539 Hollywood Club Tow
recording here: https://www.box.com/s/581b4u017wkxxbsyfiyo
First time I've heard California on Low VHF in perhaps 11 years so thrilled to get these.
Any info on the unid's would be very gratefully received
Good Dx to all!
