THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE!
For those who remember this wonderful variety show, I'm sure you'll remember Mitchell Ayres and his orchestra. His orchestra backed many great singers such as Jack Jones, Steve Lawrence,Eydie Gorme and many more. The Jack Jones and Joannie Sommers Youtube video below was performed on The Hollywood Palace. Upon viewing this show for the first time, I would have to say that the Mitchell Ayres orchrestra is one best orchestras of its time. If you are ever surfing YouTube, be sure to view some of these great performances. Until then, please enjoy this album. It's really a good album but it left me wanting more and you'll know what I mean if you've heard this band before. I was expecting more of the pow and wow factor on all twelve tracks. You do though, get a nice mix of both big band and easylistening arrangements.

By request here is The Magic Islands Revisited by Axel Stordahl. This album is truly what the cover says, magical! A great sound of the islands, almost reminiscent of Martin Denny at times. I chose not to chop side 1 & 2 of the album into their respective tracks due to the fact that there is no silence between each song. Each song is cleverly arranged to blend into the next, thus not disturbing the listener once he or she has enter the realm of total and complete relaxation.

Got another album by Doc Severinsen. It seem that I have some trouble with crackle on some of the higher frequencies. I'm thinking it's because this album was played so much by previous owners such as myself. None the less it's an album that you will enjoy all the same!

Here's my next album by Enoch Light entitled Far Away Places. Rangeraver's Departure Lounge still has this album but no longer has a link to it, so I thought that I would post since it is new to me and new to some of you. If you are familiar with the arrangements of Enoch Light, you won't be surprised that he has featured percussions in this album. You may however, be surprised to see that he uses a harpsichord as a feature instrument. Because of its' lack of resonance, the harpsichord can be difficult to record. Having the talents of Billy Rowland at the harpsichord and the recording engineers of Command records, this challenge was met and surpassed all expectations. So please enjoy this unusual but fascinating arrangement.

Today I have a request from a friend of the Hut. Many of you will know Robert Missal as one of our fellow bloggers who has a wealth of info and trivial facts about vinyl LPs and has from time to time chimed in with some fascinating facts and recollection of records, labels and artists. So when he made this request to clean up a CD copy of Brass and Bamboo obtain here in blogland, I couldn't say no. Though I've seen this album in many blogs, I've always seem to pass it by, it just didn't seem like anything that would interest me. Well never judge a record by its' cover! When I listened to it, it really blew my mind. I like this album so much that I will be acquiring a stereo copy for myself, but in the meantime please enjoy this well circulated and cleaned up version of this album.

Major renovations at home has closed the Hut temporarily, but I'm back today and will soon get things going. I had to sacrifice the Hut to move a lot of the house furniture into it so that we could have the entire house fitted with porcelain tile. During the work, the contractor had to rip up the old tile in the bathroom which is almost across from the Hut. Neither the contractor or myself closed the door to the Hut, and as a result, the Hut was completely contaminated with a very fine dust. I did not dare use any of my vintage equipment until everything was completely cleaned. So I'm happy to say as of today, I'm here listening to my vintage Teac reel to reel. I have more cleaning to do but at least I got most of the furniture out so that I can at least get in here now. I'll be catching up on your comments as well. Until then thanks for your patience.
