We stopped having them printed about two years ago, and it’s been about a year since my last sighting.

Until last night.

I met up with a couple of friends who were fresh off the plane from Vancouver, and low and behold … Mo was cruising through the Hilton with the VegasRex logo emblazoned across her chest.

That takes me back.

Jesus, I hope she made it back to her room without getting shot.

G2E 2009 - Crazy Horse Show Girls

Today was the final day of the 2009 Global Gaming Expo.

Since this was my first year of attendance, I would not be able to hazard a guess as to whether there was an increase or decrease in the number of attendees, but the turnout appeared solid for a typical convention of this size.

The majority of the event went off without a hitch, but I hit one or two bumps in the road along the way. My little identification badge caused enough problems that I had to take it off and put it in my pocket.

In the hour I had it displayed, one model read my tag and begged me not to make fun of her because she was self-conscious, and a gentleman in the Bally’s upper-deck read my tag and simply said “dick”. I think I finally met the mastermind behind 6:5 Blackjack.

As hard as this is to believe, while most people love me and think that I am the smartest and most attractive human on the planet … I’m not universally loved within the gaming industry.

G2E 2009

Except for a stint on the West side of the Valley in a neighborhood called “The Lakes”, I’ve been fortunate enough to live within very easy access to the Las Vegas Convention Center for quite some time.

In 2005, I could hop the monorail at MGM or Bally’s for a 10 minute ride north to the LVCC. A couple of years later, I was within walking distance of the halls themselves, and these days … since the Sahara Monorail Station is on the southern edge of Rexville, it’s once again a 2-3 minute rail trip.

Most people have to take a few days off and drop serious change on airfare, rooms, food, and surface transit to get to a show. I just have to roll out of bed, scratch my balls twice, pick some clothes up off the floor, and stagger out the door.

This is why, despite a high level of contempt for this town, I would have difficulty leaving it.

Las Vegas Strip

I took these photos this weekend. In them, you can get some perspective as to where a couple of the outer properties are located. In particular, the M Resort and Red Rock Casino which are 15-20 miles from my camera lens in these shots.

The haze and mild sand storm didn’t help, but sometimes you have to work with what you’ve got.

Aviation Nation Jets from Sunrise Mountain Neighborhood

Aviation Nation 2009 was once again on display at Nellis Air Force Base north of Las Vegas, and anyone looking skyward at any point over the last two days no doubt noticed some unusual goings on overhead.

Aviation Nation, billed as “America’s Air Show”, is a major yearly event that draws large crowds from all over the country. The show is free to all comers, and it remains the largest free public event in Nevada.

In all of the years that AN has been taking place in Vegas, I’ve never been directly to the Air Force Base to witness the event up-close.

There are a few reasons for this.

First of all, attending the air show is very time consuming and somewhat remote. Attendance requires that you park at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and hop a shuttle bus to the base. This is fine if you can devote an entire day to the event (as most people do), but I usually don’t have quite that much time.

The Las Vegas Strip

I’m not an outgoing guy, but when other people start in with their favorite jokes at the tables, every now and then I will go along with the herd.

Generally, there are only three types of jokes that amuse me.

  1. Jokes about taboo subjects that could never be aired on network TV, and that will get you killed in at least three countries. I can honestly say that I have never in my life been offended by a joke;
  2. Subtle jokes that generally don’t hit you until ten seconds after the punchline because they require some kind of non-linear thought;
  3. Jokes that are intentionally stupid and unfunny (ie. tell the invisible man that I can’t see him right now);

Slapstick, pratfalls, and men dressed in women’s clothing do nothing for me. Sorry Great Britain.

The only show on television (Hulu now) that even comes close to amusing me is “Family Guy”.

When jokes start flying at the table, I have a standard ice-breaker with which to gauge who I am dealing with.

Deja Vu Stripper Truck on The Las Vegas Strip

How about that for a slogan?

Dear LVCVA … that one’s on the house.

You knew it couldn’t last.

http://www.lvrj.com/news/breaking_news/Pole-dancer-truck-to-disappear-from-Strip-70038082.html:

”Hauling pole dancers around the Strip in a transparent box turned out to be a short-lived marketing stunt.

The owners of the all-nude clubs Deja Vu Showgirls and Little Darlings agreed today to halt the road shows that grabbed widespread attention and stirred a debate about whether they had gone too far, even in Las Vegas.

Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak, who considered it a traffic hazard, welcomed the news.

“There will be no more stripper-mobiles after right now,” Sisolak said. “It’s gone. It’s done.” …

Given that Larry Beard, Marketing Director of Deja Vu, insisted to the Associated Press earlier this week that he was willing to fight the County on the matter, it looks like he quickly turned into the anatomical object that his dancers are hiding under the front of their g-strings.

Or maybe he’s a marketing genius.

Several days ago, I saw a bizarre new vehicle rolling down the street. It appeared to be some kind of fishbowl-like truck with women dancing inside. Since I was about 50 yards away and on foot, I was not able to get a closer look as it took off south on Las Vegas Boulevard in relatively mild and unfettered traffic.

Last night was different.

After leaving the Palazzo parking garage and queuing up at the light near the Fashion Show Mall and Treasure Island, it appeared before my very eyes.

I once again saw the windowed vehicle filled with four women dressed in bikini attire, and riding shotgun, I ordered the driver to “follow that van”. Not that he would have done otherwise. Our automatic transmission vehicle had already turned into a stick shift … if you know what I mean. Hell, by the time the light turned green, we could have jumped on the hood of the car and had a sword fight. It wouldn’t have exactly been a fair one though. He was armed with a switchblade while I had Excalibur.

“You couldn’t write an article without mentioning your pecker, could you Rex?”

No, no I couldn’t.

I took about 100 shots with video. I was beside the truck from Spring Mountain to Tropicana. Here are a couple of grainy cell shots for the time being.
