So, I've got the RC of hardy installed on my MBP pre santarosa, and It's working great!

Only problem I've found really so far that I haven't cured is that it seems to not want to shut down. The screen goes black, and i've waited for as much as 5 min. before i've had to hard kill it. any ideas? I've tried unloading ndiswrapper, and it seems like it gets farther.

Hi Guys,

I use Yojimbo for store information and I want to know if there is something like Yojimbo for Ubuntu because I am migrating my thinkpad from windows to ubuntu.

Thanks :)

Is there any issues with running Ubuntu on a Xserve (intel). I've done a bit of googling, and seen issues but not yet found a definitive answer. I've got a meeting pretty soon to discuss some issues with the problems with OSX and AFP on this server running OSX 10.5, and I'm wanting to be able to let them know if putting linux on the box to serve files would be feasible. It amazes me that Apple would have such problems with their own proprietary protocol on their own clients/server. I'm going to look at NFS before we go as far as installing linux, (smb is too slow it seems) but I'm just hoping to know before the meeting what options I have. Thanks

I recently upgraded Hardy on my 3rd gen. Macbook using the update manager. As it's still a beta, (or release candidate) I'm not sure if I can post support questions yet...someone just let me know.

After rebooting, I found that my keyboard does not function at all. My mouse works fine, but the keyboard is totally unresponsive, and the leds on the caps and num lock do not light up. Anyone have any ideas? It's kind of an impossible problem because I have no way of gathering data about it.

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

So I thought I would try to put the Hardy Heron release candidate on my Macbook Pro. Install seemed to work fine. rEFIt has an entry for Linux but when I select it, a black screen with "no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" appears. It's very strange because I installed Gutsy multiple times on this laptop and it always worked perfectly.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have installed hardy on my macbook and have got sound working following the walk throughs. However the sound in ubuntu is much quieter than in osx and is very tinny.

I have been messing around with every option i can find, but nothing seems to make much difference.

Does anyone have the same problem, or even a fix?

Thanks.

I'm quite fond of RapidWeaver for the OS X. It's simple to use and powerful. I really like how you can apply styles really easily. Is there a close equivalent for Linux. I'm thinking that there isn't :(

I'm aware of Kompozer and Nvu - but they're far from close.

Grrr, I installed the latest Ubuntu (8.04 LTS), hoping my Broadcom 4321 would finally be supported for my MacBook & its still a no go. This is also the same card they use in the Mac Pros I believe.

Anyone know how to make this work??

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *232.9 Gi disk0
1: EFI 200.0 Mi disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS Mac OS 31.9 Gi disk0s2
3: Linux Swap 1.4 Gi disk0s3

Ok. Here's what I've got. but when I try to resize my Apple HFS volume in diskutil (GUI) it gives me a "mediakit" error and I can't resize it. Also, it won't let me delete my linux swap partition. I have 200g just sitting there, but I can't seem to format them for use.

Hi!

2.6.25 was released a couple days ago, and contains some interesting things that may be of value to Macs.. I noticed it has EFI x86-64 support, something about a soundcard for a "MacBook" and i915 video support, and a bunch of extra 'ACPI thermal support'.

This won't be in Hardy Heron, but I am curious to know what benefits it brings to the table for Macs, if someone who knows about kernels can look into it.

Looking forward to trying out HH on this 3,1 MacBook. Going to be really interesting to see if these sporadic slow-motion keyboard slowdowns in the web browser on my computer are OS X related, or hardware.

Have a great day!

Hi, I recently attempted to boot 7.10 on my g4 intel mac (1st generation of intel based macs, but in not positive about that) anyways once I boot up I get

Running local boot script
[OK]

Not that exactly but im sure you've all seen this topic before.

I have looked everywhere for answers and tried many many things, the last thing I normally do is make a new thread but after 3 hours of searching i'll make an exception. any ideas or sure thing fixs would be greatly appreciated. If you require specs' just ask,
also im not a programmer so please don't just through code at me.

EDIT: Sorry i forgot to mention that i wasn't sure if this belongs here or in absolute beginner talk..

I am running the Macbook 3.1 C2D, Hardy

I tried to install Compiz Fusion and can't figure out how to access it after install. Gave up and Uninstalled, but my standard "Desktop Effects" wont work and Compiz install left a ton of KDE stuff in my "Others" section of applications that i can't figure out how to remove, or even if i should. Any help?

Been searching other threads but haven't found an answer yet.

I've got a MacBook Santa Rosa and have been using the wiki at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook_Santa_Rosa to split the hard drive down the middle; Keep Lepoard on one half, put Gusty on the other.

As per the instructions, I installed rEFIt, which seems to work great.

I used BootCamp to partition the hard drive.

I dowlnoaded Gusty and burned it to a CD which so far seems to be installing just like it should.

I get to the bit about partitioning and choose 'manual partition' as per the wiki instructions. It shows:

EFI on /dev/sda1
79g available on /dev/sda2 (which I'm guessing is OSX)
80g available on /dev/sda3 (which I'm guessing is the free space)

How exactly do I proceed? The instructions say to create an /ext3 partition but doesn't say how to do that or if that's where I'm putting Gusty. When I try simply choosing /dev/sda3 it tells me "no root system is defined." How do I do that?

Thanks in advance ...

- Jo

My intel mac mini does not recognize any analog audio in, though it has audio input. This goes both for os x and ubuntu.
a) Is it a way I can locate the problem which results in my audio input not working?
b) Does anybody know if usb-headsets like Premium Notebook Headset from Logitech would/should work in Ubuntu?

I partitioned my hard drive, I installed ubuntu, my problem is that ubuntu does not boot. My macbook automatically loads OS X and does not give me the option to load ubuntu. What did I do wrong?

Hi,

I am new to Ubuntu. I installed Hardy 8.04 beta off the LiveCD on my iMac7,1 20" (new aluminium model) and all was fine. However the kernel on the CD contains a 'fix' for the newest MacBook* keyboards which has caused a regression issue for the new aluminium wired keyboard: it took me a lot of hunting to find this issue it is flagged up as a bug in Launchpad but I'm guessing most people will look here first, hence my post.

The bug: the kernel thinks the aluminium wired keyboard is a laptop keyboard so (1) if you touch the key above 7 (looks like box with an X through it) on the numeric keypad it turns all keys off except enter on the numpad and turns the keys around UIOP area into a numpad HOWEVER pressing that key again DOES NOT revert the keyboard to normal function! and (2) the numpad won't work at all

Solution: (1) the kernel people need to fix this patch (2) if this happens to you press F6 twice and your keyboard will return to normal use (except the numpad of course).

Also watch out for the F-keys: another kernel patch has made them function as they do in Mac OS X which was not I believe how they functioned previously under linux. Use Fn+F-key to get the F-key rather than the printed Mac OS X type function (e.g. volume, brightness etc). Search launchpad I think there is a fix for this there but I don't have time to find it again and link it.

All the best,

blurg

Edit: The link to the launchpad bug report is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/201887
