Nicholas Myers of A.N.A. Comics contributed this lovely battle sequence featuring Zomgz and Morvo with a wary Antoine in the background…
today is part one of this week’s three page update. pages two & three up on wednesday & thursday respectively.
i hope you all enjoy…
smjjames is right, it’s been a hellish week. nothing bad per se, just a whole lot of chaos. this week there have been too many nights where i’m at the studio working till 6am, rushing home for a nap, and then returning back at 9am-ish. my brain is fried and i’m tired.
i’ve already drawn this week’s update but haven’t have had time to colour it, hence since this week is essentially over, i’m going to take the weekend to colour it and post the three pages tue, wed, and thurs. i’m pretty happy with this sequence and look forward to sharing it with you.
just thought i’d let you all know. have a great weekend and see you on tuesday morning bright and early!
cheeers,
ramon.
made some slight tweaks to the dialogue to page 155. it was stuff i had in originally but removed last minute thinking the brevity of mr. bone’s dialogue would translate nicely. overall it didn’t. i think the addition of the two words does add in a smoother transition and actually works better with today’s instalment.
next week; things… explode :)
y’know i think this is the quietest mr. bones has ever been :P
just a reminder i might be taking kukuburi down this weekend to transfer it’s contents and build the new site. most likely i’m thinking sunday night. but knowing all the other stuff going on this weekend… who knows if i’ll even get around it…
have a great weekend everybody!
so what day is it? i’ve completely lost track…
okay i’m being a bit flippant, but it’s been a jam packed series of days. aside from personal stuff, i may have to be moving so i’m hunting around for apartments as a precautionary measure, which eats up a joyous amount of time. i’ve also been coding, along with karl kerschl (of abominable charles christopher fame) a series of upgrades for TX Comics. Karl’s been handling the individual site designs, while i’ve been handling the main TX site interface. and coding takes up a lot of hours that just tend to blur by…
but things are now set in motion, aside from changing over all the individual sites to the new TX “look” currently showcased on charles christopher and sin titulo. so that’s going to eat up a bit of time – so expect kukuburi to be down possibly this weekend. most likely sunday.
also new is the TX Shop, a unified storefront, which will showcase the collective swag of all the tx creators. currently there are a handful of prints, some and some t-shirts, though we will begin to populate the store with more items as time progresses. to paraphrase karl, this is truly an exciting time for us as this is the next big step in moving forward in our careers as artists and storytellers. moving away from corporate reliance and toward self-sufficiency as creators in our own right. the more we move in this direction the less work-for-hire jobs we have to take which will allow us to focus more of our time on our own stories, with regular and possibly more updates as time progresses.
me. right now. very excited!
okay… time to get back to the drawing board and tackle the next kukuburi page and that red-headed stepchild of mine butternutsquash who has been neglected some love over the past few weeks!
i want to say more on today’s update but i think the page speaks for itself. it’s a turning point on many levels.
there were some interesting observations mad over the past couple of updates which specifically want me to clear up the storytelling a little. when the first nightmares arose there were 5, but since i have not had any establishing shots where these fellows are in relevance to anything. my bad. one thing i will definitely clear up in the print addition.
also, today there are two new additions to the FAN ART GALLERY, the first by ben todd and second by graham johnson. i love seeing people’s interpretations of kukuburi’s denizens – so if you have one, or are so inclined – please share :)
have a great weekend all and i will see you next week!
good morning folks.
little bit tired here, the days have been packed to the brim of late allowing me very little spare time to focus on my favourite little things. but i’m persevering – cause i want to see this book come out this fall if i can!
thanks you all for coming up to bat for me over the comments over the past couple updates regarding my dedication and professionalism. i love kukuburi, but it is something i do in my spare time. and when i say spare time it’s not like i dedicate an hour or two and then i’m done. a page alone can take up to 16-20 hrs to do from start to finish and i’m not including writing and layouts. so all in all i’m spending about 3-4 full work days on kukuburi every week, which i don’t mind doing, but then that leaves me 4-3 days for butternut (my other webcomic), corporate work, a life, and all the curve balls life throws at you from time to time. i wish i could update kukuburi everyday, but it’s just not financially plausible.
i’m not complaining, i love what i do, but when people attack my professionalism it kinda irks me as i’ve been a professional illustrator/cartoonist for almost 15 years.
that said, here is part one of this weeks update, part two will be going up thursday afternoon.
cheers,
r.
so, uhm, yeah… i promised four pages this week, and while i have all four drawn and inked, i’m running pretty ragged this week and still have a tonne of work to do before the week is out. so i, being the bastard that i am, am going to renege on the promise of four and just deliver two. i need to make my week more manageable but at the same time it gives me a jump start on next week and hopefully steps towards an actual buffer.
i hope you understand.
…tune in tomorrow night for the result of todays impactful panels!
[EDIT February 9th] after a busy couple days of meetings, i am pooped. got some big things happening and i will share when i can…. but for now i need to go home and pass out as i have another meeting tomorrow morning, but it is the last of the week! so kukuburi will be updated tomorrow and then for the next four days…. :)
hello everyone,
it looks like my little streak of updates gets a little hiccup this week. you see i’m doing a little traveling visiting some friends and working at the same time. i actually have this week’s update drawn and inked but i’ve had no way of colouring it. you see i forgot my wacom tablet, and there’s no way in hell i’m colouring this comic on my macbook with a track pad or mouse. so rather that attempt a substandard colouring on this weeks update i have decided to take the time i would have devoted to colouring and draw the upcoming week’s strips.
so, while i have nothing to offer you this week, next week you shall get four pages of update running from tuesday to friday, and the week following things shall return to the regular two pages a week. i apologise for the delay, but i’d rather skip a week than pass along something that i feel would not be my best work due to the circumstances at hand.
till next week,
ramón.
apologies to all for today’s late update.
i had finished everything at 5pm and decided let it simmer for a couple of hours as i went to meet a friend for a round of drinks and dinner. my thought in this was that i wasn’t quite happy with the original dialogue and i had to let it sit and come back to it to see if i liked it. well, dinner was originally supposed to be an early affair as my friend had to finish packing later. you see he is moving to korea for an indefinite length of time. but needless to say the night continued on as we caught up and then said good-bye.
i didn’t get back to the studio till almost midnight – and from that point on i wrestled, bleary eyed, with the dialogue – till now.
at the end of the day, because of the delay, the story is better for it :)
i’m glad you all enjoyed p147, it was really nice to see the discussion in the comments section. i’ll have to go through there and chat with you all as there are some very interesting viewpoints and observations. but for now i still have another hour or so of work ahead of me… and then bedtime beckons.
see you all next week when, well… oh boy.
sometimes a smarmy attitude will get you nowhere…
(and now it’s time to go fill my tummy with food. tasty tasty food! i am so hungry.)
the right words can be powerful tools, and our boney friend seems to have a way with them…
tune in next week two words too many are uttered.
silence sometimes speaks louder than words.
hopefully it does so here :P
always wary of putting up pages sans dialogue on a comic that updates twice a week. but if i could do a comic entirely in silence i would. maybe my next project… the one with the clown that i tweeted about… hrm, maybe.
i wish i could post the next 4 pages right now! cause man… well, you’ll see… next page in day and a bit!
i still seem to be running a day behind – my apologies.
i’m going to try and work diligently through the weekend and see if i can rectify this situation.
on that note, a good weekend to you all and i’ll see you next week… on time :)
it’s 1:14am here… so i guess it’s officially good morning!
i seem to be a day behind everything since new years. hopefully in the next few days i can change that, and move it so i’m a few days ahead… maybe, even, dare i say it weeks ahead… ah, to dream. but in all honesty, i did sit down a few days ago and laid out the next 20 pages or so of kukuburi which i’m quite happy about as it’s been floating in my head and in rough notes for a few months now. and even though i’ve known the ending to chapter one for some time it took me some time to arrange the puzzle pieces. i hope you’re as happy with it as i am.
though knowing these characters they’ll veer of the script i’ve set forth. they’ve done it once, they’ll do it again. it’s the beuayt of the spontaneity of doing things the way i am… and also the danger.
as you can see this week we return to our team out in the trenches and to reiterate morvo’s response… not goood.
btw, if you haven’t done so already, you still have a chance to VOTE on what you might think is in the box that reggie fought tooth and nail to bring to the brigade.
see you tomorrow :)
in my mad rush to get page 141 up the other day i forgot to wish everyone a happy new year and a welcome back! so inconsiderate… so, yeah, what i just said :)
our old boney friend is enjoying emotionally destroying our heroine! i tried, without morphing the his skull too much, to evoke the image of a grin in his ugly mug in panel four. it’s almost an optical illusion, sometimes i see it and other times i don’t… very subtle i suppose.
as i mentioned in the butternutsquash blog i had a bit of an interesting years end. to reiterate -
“after a couple wonderful months in europe i had a bit of a strange ending to 2009. the day before christmas i was told my tenancy case, that i had won but a month previous after a 2 year ordeal, was now being appealed (joy) and then an hour later i received a call whereupon i was fired from a job. a first in my decade of freelancing as an artist. it was a blow to the ego, but at the end of the day i saw it as a blessing which will allow me more time to dedicate to the things i hold dear, like bns and kukuburi. as rob and i near 200 strips in the squash i would like to work towards a collection before the year is out – as well i have high hopes of taking the squash 3 times a week sometime this year. big dreams – hopefully i can make them all happen!”
and not to mentioned kukuburi volume 1, which i had hoped would be ready for spring, will more realistically be ready for a fall release. but not too worry, i’ll keep everyone updated of progress. to fill the springtime gap i’m working on a nice giant sized kukuburi print, and maybe a t-shirt. we’ll see.
- so, big plans for this year. i hope you all stick around and enjoy the ride! and as that old commercial used to go “tell all your friends, tell a whole bunch…”
