The borough of Amsterdam-Centrum is holding a massive user test of various bicycle storage solution at Raamplein right now. It's right next to Leidseplein where bicycle storage can get problematic on weekend nights.
The test is to see if this is a good location to store bicycles and to see which of the solutions is preferable.

Here's what we got up to with an underused council noticeboard, some RSS feeds, a barcode-reading iPhone and a little bit of hackery.

This is the first of a couple of new movement maps that I've charted this summer.
This shows just 10 minutes of movement at a busy lunchtime food counter. On this one I took a sounding every 30 seconds for 10 minutes over my floor grid. Some curious (and some self-explanatory) things here. It would seem that females seem to use the counter much more than males over this particular lunch time. (the self-explanatory bit) Some participants move in between the counter and the sandwich dispensers (towards the foot of the diagram) and some move off to sit and eat food purchased or pay at alternative cash tills.
I'm sure there's more in there too - be interested to hear people's thinking or suggestions!
My first movement map can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/the_bumblebee/2229041742/

All done by RFID. This library also has free Internet and WiFi access, music downloads, e-books, a good restaurant, and all CDs and DVDs available can be borrowed or listened to or watched onsite in any of the hundreds of computers available. I was very impressed by this place. Beautiful architecture mixed with well though out interaction design.

Sign behind the Moai statue at the British Museum. So many people touched the sign saying 'Please do not touch' that when the letters were removed their outline is still visible.

Apparently this is someone's "solution" for people that liked to use this concrete slope under the University Bridge for skateboarding and riding bikes on. Funny that now, for the first time in the 3 years I've ridden almost every week (and often every day) along this path I notice a bunch of graffitti on the artwork under the bridge and on the bridge footings and piers. Guess if you take away one option, you leave another.
