First: for those, who love digging the Zakkorama achives: act swift and quick. From June 1 all pre-2010 posts will be gone for good!
Please, do not ask for re-ups as I don't have the time.
The good news then: I will continue posting but the format might change,
As you may have noticed, playlists appear in JPGs for obvious reasons.
So now, get on with Zakkorama 65
Waaaw, this is a great selection. Really. Truly. Quite some old stuff this week, with only one brandnew track from the upcoming Woven Hand album. Go and get it as soon as you can!

For three years April was the Month Of Live Music here at Zakkorama. It almost seemed to become a kind of tradition, but I didn't have the time to prepare it this time.Today, at Queen's Day, though I have lined up four great live recordings.
Hope you will enjoy the festival.

Ahaa, a new Spotlight, the first since a long time.
After the Dutch History special at Easter, now it's time to have a closer look at the temporary scene. There is quite a lot happening (which is good) and this is only a tip of the iceberg. Hope you like it.
Never Let You Go - Beef - The Original - 3:47 - 2008 - 1
So sad this band split up. They were the best party band from Holland with their energetic ska/reggae approach.
8 Years - Anouk - For Bitter Or Worse - 3:52 - 2009 - 2
She is big in Holland. And ambitious. But will she make it outside the country?
Mossie - Bettie Serveert - Pharmacy Of Love - 3:12 - 2010 - 3
Probably my favorite Dutch band for the past twenty years. And I'm glad they are back with a great album.
City Blues - Clemens Van De Ven - Banks Of The River - 3:57 - 2007 - 4
Dutch singer-songwriter. Just listen.
Gold And Seaweed (Full Version) - DeWolff - DeWolff - 5:25 - 2008 - 5
Birth Of The Ninth Sun - DeWolff - Strange Fruits And Undiscovered Plants - 7:41 - 2009 - 6
Two tracks by these remarkable newcomers. They are still in their teens but they sound so mature! Like one of their inspiring bands, The Doors, they have no bassplayer.
Times Are Changing - Di-Rect - - 3:24 - 2009 - 7
One of Holland's most successful acts. They just changed their leadsinger, butit doesn't seem toharm much.
Can Somebody Tell Me - Giovanca - While I'm Awake - 4:32 - 2010 - 8
Young singer who might have a bright future.
Slow Train - Hans Theessink - Birthday Bash - 5:28 - 2009 - 9
Haha, old guy, singer-songwriter, born inmy hometown, lives in Austria, recorded live at his 60th birthday party.
No Surrender - Kane - - 3:07 - 2009 - 10
Another band who are huge in Holland and capable of breaking through in Europe.
Sugar Rush (I. Siegal) - King Mo - At La Bonbonniere - 5:42 - 2009 - 11
Best Dutch bluesunit. Their next album will be released within a couple weeks. Like their debut album this is going to be a live album. You can't put these guys in a studio. It won't work.
No More Singin' The Blues - Kyteman - The Hermit Sessions - 3:13 - 2009 - 12
I'm not into hiphop, but this guy made a horrendous album, extending the genre with acompletely new approach. Sadly he disbanded the orchestra but I'm sure he will come up with something new.
Wicked World - Laura Jansen - Bells - 2:32 - 2009 - 13
Living in the US, this woman made a frantic debut album. Wouldit be nice sitting next to her at he piano!
Station Wagon - Lucky Fonz III - A Family Like Yours - 2:39 - 2009 - 14
Singer-songwriter. Young and ambitious. Great live performer.
Celia Trigger - Marike Jager - Cella Trigger - 3:30 - 2008 - 15
This album came as quite a surprise. Wonder how she will follow up.
A Little Army Of Words - Michael De Jong - For Madmen Only - 4:39 - 2009 - 16
Almost a legend, Michael is very uniwue in his songwriting and definitely deserves more attention.
Tes Yeux - No Blues - Lumen - 3:54 - - 17
These guys are great. They even had to invent a new term for their music: arabicana.
Dr. Wanna Do - Caro Emerald - Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor - 3:02 - 2010 - 18
A new star is born. Though limiting herself to a very fifties-style she might very well carry this through.
Sixty minute man - Pieter Draijer - Pieter Draijer - 1:50 - 2007 - 19
Once he was a rock'n'roller, now he explores history. Great guitar picking. Released through Meatball Records
One Song - Rigby - - 3:26 - 2009 - 20
Quite a new band. Very popular on national level. Will they make it outside? I doubt.
Lied vur Limburg - Rowwen Hèze - - 5:16 - 2007 - 21
You may call them kind of Dutch Los Lobos. They have been around for a long time. Singing in Southern Dutch dialect may be a kind of limit, but they don't care I guess. As far as I know this track was only available as a free download some time ago.
Or So I'm Told - Tim Knol - Tim Knol - 3:03 - 2010 - 22
A lot of promotion guides his debut release. A new Neil Young I read. Well, not exactly. Fine album though, assisted by the great Anne Soldaat. Read on
Pray For Delay - Anne Soldaat - In Another Life - 4:14 - 2009 - 23
He was the guitar man with the now defunkt Daryl-Ann. This is from his splendid soloalbum.
Have A Little Faith In Me - Ilse Delange - Live In Ahoy - 4:25 - 2009 - 24
She is one of the nation's best selling singers. Sometimes I have my doubts about her. Last year saw her first live album released, featuring this John Hiatt classic.
Run To Seed - Mandrake Root - Listen Now People - 5:25 - 2009 - 25
Great band. The three guys played on my new album, but here they are with their own vocalist Liesbeth, who has her very own way of singing. Especially her doubles are great. Released through Meatball Records.
Hör Mir An - Sundive - One (Live) - 3:39 - 2008 - 26
Dutch unit featuring the great Kaptan Geert Meuffels.
Terrible End - Moke - The Long and Dangerous Sea - 3:36 - 2009 - 27
Great band from Amsterdam. They are well on their way conquering Europe. I have my doubts on the addition of keyboards though.

As an extra here is JOHAN.
An extraordinary band, who released only 3 albums in 12,5 years, but all mighty fine. They just released a boxed set with all three albums plus a DVD, containing 7 videos.
It sells at only 15 euro. So this is a MUST HAVE. I have for you a ten track selection.

In the second part you will find the track Showcase Of My Dreams. Feel free to distribute it. If you are a blogger too, it would be nice if you feature the track in one of your posts (let me know if you do so). Please always mention my website: www.kazzshow.net

Today, one of the musicians who definitely changed my look at rock music, turns 65.It's Ritchie Blackmore, co-founder of Deep Purple in 1968, founder of Rainbow in 1975 and founder of Blackmore's Night in 1996.
He definitely was a main inspiration of two bands I worked with (read here).
I started a Rainbow fanclub in 1979. There is an online fanclubsite, run by the man who was my follow up then. Go here Choose 'Over The Rainbow' and read my magazine contributions from those days.
Met him on various occasions in the early 80s and in the summer of 2003, and I can assure you he's not the monster some journos want you to believe.
Happy Birthday, lad.

Let's celebrate with a recording of the one Rainbow line up I've never seen performing live.

This blog is basically a piece of black paper. No pop ups, no ads.
Just wanna keep it that way.
In previous years April was a month ofl ive music. I had a coupe of mails from visitors about this and asking why this tradition comes to a halt this year. Well, the answer is quite simple: I just hadn't enough time to prepare it. Besides, there are various other blogs who publish so much bootleg material.
So let's get on with another edtion of the famous Zakkorama series.
Click on both pictures below to read this weeks post. The reason to do it this way was told two weeks ago.
Have fun, pick your favorites and buy a couple of their albums!
Before I forget: a lot of visitors like to send me a mail rather than posting a comment. I love it. Send your mail to kazzshow@gmail.com

More tomorrow including my all time favorite Dutch album!
Date: Saturday, 03 Apr 2010 10:42
In the summer series on the 60s last year there was a special post on Dutch pop in the sixties.
Well most popgroups sang in English. There have been requests since for some music in the Dutch language. It took a while but here it is.
Over this Easter weekend you get three posts, entirely with Dutch music (in Dutch that is).
In this first edition it is a bit of historical view as these tracks were all recorded before the 70s, some even going back before World War II.
Hope you enjoy it.

I know quite a lot of you like the Zakkorama mixes I compile. So it is sad to see them sometimes being removed by the company that makes blogging possible. For obvious reasons ofcourse.
I have info on how this works, so from now on (some) playlists will not be visible as text in posts, but as a JPG picture. Just click on it to enlarge and read the setlist. Simple as that!
Zakkorama 62 is, as usual a fine mix of old, older (1963) and some more recent works, There is also the welcome return, after 10 years absence, from the male voice of Dead Can Dance, who will shortly release his new and second solo album (thanks to German magazine Sonic Seducer).
Oh yes, for all those soundwizards out there, there is a mystery track included. Let's see who is the first to write in Comments the name of the group plus the song title!

By the way, my new cd B.LOOSE (released as Kazz), released in January, is doing quite well. Have you already visited my new website? Click on the picture above and learn all about the album. You can now also read my history, go though the discography. Also the first archival pictures have been added (many more to come). Want to know how I looked like 30 years ago? Just go!
While reading and watching you can listen to a 13 minute preview from the album.
Tomorrow the series on Mercedes Sosa will finish. Originally I intended the series to be longer, but there has not been a single comment until now. So I guess you, visitors, are not interested. Or are you?

Today is a sad day, as I just learnt about the sudden passing of Alex Chilton. Alex died yesterday, 59, through a heart attack. It was just last november when I chose Big Star's gigantic 4CD retrospective Keep An Eye On The Sky as BOXED CD SET OF THE YEAR.
Read more here
Alex was the teenager star in US group the BOXTOPS in the second half of the sixties (you all know that pne song), but proved great songwritership in the early 70s with Big Star.
Well, the group never made it big. Their third album was even rejected by the record company. Their cult status however grew. And Alex wrote the most beautiful songs.
From the late 70s onwards his career, and his personal life, have not been period of great success. Chilton kept on writing and performing, sometimes with various incarnations of the Boxtops and Big Star.
In other parts of Blogworld albums by both bands will (re)appear these days. I have for you today the excellent full boxed set by Big Star, which was released last year. Ofcourse it includes the best songs, but there is a lot of previously unreleased stuff, which is really great.
Salute you, Alex.

After yesterday's Peter Hammill extravaganza the series on Mercedes Sosa continues with a selection from three albums from three different decades.
Enjoy!

I have to say a word on the disappearing of Zakkorama 61. This contained a selection of new albums, just to make you aware of their existence, to give you previews of albums you might like or in other words promote them like radiostations do. Still, some artists see it different. So Blogger had to take the post out because somebody complained about the fact that his/her/their music was featured in Zakkorama 61.
If you are still interested to know which albums were featured, go here
Enjoy!

Before continuing the series on Mercedes Sosa tomorrow, let's have a look at one of my favorite singers and songwriters, Peter Hammill.
He has been featured here before and from there I know he has a few followers here.
Recently, in January, Hammill played a short solo tour on the European continent, mainly in Germany.
I have for you three concerts from these German dates. As Hammill changes his setlist for every gig, each performance is different. He played 51 songs with not less than 39 different compositions with only 2 songs played at all three gigs.
At 61 of age, Peter Hammill totally commits. Though I love what he does with Van Der Graaf Generator, I favor his solo performances.
Enjoy the shows!
As an extra I added a show by Van Der Graaf Generator, recorded in New York City last year.
These are all audience recordings, so soundquality varies. But in general the Hammill shows are all fine quality.

You may have noticed or wondered what happened to Zakkorama 61. Tomorrow more on that.
Date: Wednesday, 10 Mar 2010 11:39
So, here we are at last for a new Zakkorama mix.
These have been two busy months for me, with all the buzz around my new album and a lot of personal things going on here.
I hope you liked the reposts of the old Zakko mixes over the recent weeks.
In the meantime, I am stunned with the lot of new amazing great albums which were released in these first two months of the year. It seems that 2010 is going to be a great year.
Usually a Zakkorama mix features a fine blend of old and new, but today I have for you a mix of just newly released material, all carrying the 2010 stamp.
Some familiar names, but also some new names, which always pleases me.
20 previews from 18 new albums. This is meant as promoting new music. Pick your favorites.
01 Like The First Time - Corinne Bailey Rae - The Sea - 3:13
She's not new to the business, but this woman really deserves some more attention. By far the best album she's done until now.
02 The Man Who Didn't Know He'd Lost His Mind - Eels - End Times (Bonus EP) - 2:36
End Times for Eels? Let's hope for some more. This track is from the bonus part.
03 Alike - Efterklang - Magic Chairs - 4:13
Must admit I never heard of them before. Quite a surprise. If you like his track, be sure you will love te album as well.
04 Or So I'm Told - Tim Knol - Tim Knol - 3:03
05 Silverman Hotel - Tim Knol - Tim Knol - 2:48
A young Dutch guy, making his debut with this great album. A new name for all of us, with a great future.
06 One Soul To Save - Eric Bibb - Booker’s Guitar - 3:00
Bibb is a settled name is bluesworld, but keeps surprising.
07 I'm New Here - Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here - 3:33
New here? Well, err, yes. But a welcome return from an icon from long time ago.
COVER OF THE WEEK
08 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Hayseed Dixie - Killer Grass - 4:11
This is really fun. A full album of rock classics played dixie wise. Ever heard a Black Sabbath song played like this? Check out the album. It will make your party more fun.
09 Change4Me - Bettie Serveert - Pharmacy Of Love - 4:10
They were my favorite Dutch band for a long time. And now they return after some years of absence. And they are still the best in this small country.
10 High Time - The Automatic - Tear The Signs Down - 4:39
Another new name to me, but what a fantastic album!
11 Baby Birch - Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me - 9:30
She plays the harp beautifully, but her voice was a bit, say, thin on her first albums. That has changed on her new TRIPLE album (for the price of one).
12 Redemption Day - Johnny Cash - American VI: Ain't No Grave - 4:22
Another chapter in the series produced by Rick Rubin. If you liked the previous albums, you will definitely like this one.
13 The Boy In The Bubble - Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back - 4:29
When I heard the news of Gabriel recording a full album of covers I was quite amazed. This man has come up with so many great compositions. Why record an album with covers? Well, he did it and it is beautiful. It is a stand-out among the range of cover albums. Impressive track listing as well. Just listen to this Paul Simon song and what Gabriel did with it.
14 Soldier of Love - Sade - Soldier of Love - 5:58
Never thought of Sade being featured here. Well, she is back after a long hiatus. And I like it.
15 Black Eyes - Shearwater - The Golden Archipelago - 3:40
16 God Made Me - Shearwater - The Golden Archipelago - 4:23
Another new name to me and immediately heading for the Album Of The Year Award. Give these two tracks a listen and you know what I mean.
17 The Rest Of The World Has Gone Home - The Courteeners - Falcon - 3:26
Never heard this band before but this sounds just great to me.
18 Factory Girls - Tindersticks - Falling Down A Mountain - 5:55
Nothing new here, but if you like Tindersticks like I do, every new album is a welcome addition to your collection.
19 Mondegreen - Yeasayer - Odd Blood - 4:39
They already surprised me with their previous releases, but this new one is really outstanding. 2010 is goig to be their year, no discussion about it.
20 Saturday Come Slow feat. Damon Albarn - Massive Attack - Heligoland - 3:28
Finally another return. Massive Attack just do what they always did. Love it or hate it. I love it.
Well, that's a great start, isn't it? 18 great new albums in just two months.
Enjoy the show here
Note added March 10: the original link seems to have gone astray, so I added a new one

One week after her passing I had a Spotlight here which included her first and her final albums. For those who missed it, go here
