Photos from the DIY Spring Retreat 2013

The DIY Team spent the past week hanging out in Bolinas, CA where we built and raced box car derbies, discussed plans for the new DIY Headquarters, explored the beautiful hiking trails along the coast of California, and generally relaxed and enjoyed being off the grid (ok, not totally ;) ).  It’s been a great week and we’re now back in the office as wide-eyed as ever and ready to build out our plans for the future of DIY.

Beaver Brook School

My friends Armin and George are hosting the first Beaver Brook School on Aug 25th through Sep 2nd, an intensive 8-day course to learn how to design and construct a building.

Ten applicants will be invited to stay in bunkhouse, spend long days in workshops and at the job site, and walk away with construction know-how. The bonus  is that Beaver Brook in the fall is just about one of the most spectacular places to spend time.

More details on the site.

diy:

I came into work this morning and found a package on my desk. It was from a maker named OgelInside the package was this:

“Dear Saxon,

I would like you to have this tape portrait I made of you. I have not posted it because I wanted you to be the first to see it. I have a time lapse, using an app called iMotion, of me making it. It was really fun to make and took me about three hours. I hope you like it.

                                                 Sincerely, Maker Ogel”

For anyone unfamiliar with Ogel, he’s the most prolific maker on DIY – 310 Projects and 34 Skills. He’s also one of the makers featured in this mini-doc we made called DIY Brothers.

Ogel, you’ve made my day. The craftsmanship of this piece is remarkable. Thank you.

- Isaiah

“Great companies are vibrant, they can hardly contain themselves. It’s because they’re made by believers who want to find other believers and convert the rest.”
