A Bunch of Beatniks Riding a Rocket celebrated its one year birthday on January 17th. I was trying to think of an appropriate way to celebrate this occasion and decided that another compilation was in order. Since Bunch Of Beatniks is basically a home to lost releases that never find a proper means of release, I thought it would be appropriate to make an entire compilation out of individual songs that have no place else to go. I wrote a bunch of my favorite bands and was floored at how quickly I received these songs back. The whole compilation came together in less than 2 weeks. If you have ever been part of a compilation before you know how truly amazing this is! The songs range from lost treasures that never found a home to covers of beloved songs, from failed experiments to awesome experiments and even some demos of things to look forward to in the future. I hope you enjoy all of these songs that have finally found a proper home, and I hope you will keep on enjoying A Bunch of Beatniks Riding a Rocket for years to come.

It was 1995. The TV shows Benson and Alf were enjoying syndication of previously run episodes both nationally and internationally. It was the year of the "Internet". O.J Simpson was historically bothered with unnecessary litigation and 4 young lads from Athens and Watkinsville recorded a piece of history that would change peoples' lives and ultimately the world.

In the basement of Ryan Lord's parents' home, Ryan Lord, Dan Geller, Greg Harmelink and Pat Valentine converged to record 11 songs that come as close to "audio diamonds" as anything recorded ever had before.

While God has many names to many people, a band should only have one name. At the recording of the works presented here, we had chosen the name Reuben Kincaid. It sounded good and familiar...probably because another band had already used that name. It was even more embarrassing that the band had existed in Athens...THE VERY TOWN THAT WE WERE FROM!

Being intelligent people, we decided it would be wise to change our name. By the time we released the cassette (like a CD but with moving parts) we changed the name to the elegant but original "The Real Reuben Kincaid". The name had an edge. The name whispered "we are destined for greatness". It was a name that matched the quality of the works presented here.

Before now, this recording was only available to a select few. Two facts should be known about this recording:
1. Everyone who has previously listened to this recording in the past has had at least 10 good things happen to them
2. Everyone who has not listened to this recording has had at least one bad thing happen to them

It is important that we have more good things happen to people than bad things. In this day in age, we cannot risk bad things. If you love somebody and do not want to risk bad things, share the gift of this music with them.

The Monocles consist of Greg Harmelink (vocals,guitar), Sean Rawls
(vocals,guitar), Bren Mead (vocals,drums) and Pat Valentine (bass).
The Monocles played two shows. At our first show (40 Watt), we called
ourselves the Monocles but had a contest to rename our band.
Many people voted. I don't recall if there was a clear winner...but I
remember "Trionocles" being popular. I don't remember if "Deep Cuts"
was a top candidate or not but that is the name we played under during our second and final show (Tasty World). We had no idea it would be our final show.

There are a few songs that are not captured here which is too bad.
Unfortunately this group of songs is missing a gem of song from Sean.
I don't recall the name.

A bitter lawsuit between Pat and Bren ended the group as we know it.
Pat had legally tried to have his name changed to "Bren Mead" which
the original Bren Mead found so upsetting that he had to file a
lawsuit.

In the aftermath of Bren Mead vs. Bren Mead, Pat Valentine (Bren #2)
moved to Argentina in order to raise grass-fed cattle...Sean saw
"visions" and moved to San Francisco, and Bren #1 is quietly living
off a substantial settlement gained from Bren vs. Bren.

Words cannot express how much we dislike each other.
