Kylie Minogue's latest release 'X" came out in the States today. The album was released late last year in the rest of the world, and was on many 'best of the year lists' in December (including mine!). Birmingham's, The Charlatans will be releasing their new album, You Cross My Path on CD and vinyl on May 19. You Cross My Path was recorded in Los Angeles, Ireland and the bands own studio, Big Mushroom, in Cheshire.

I've listened to the album a couple of times already and it's got me convinced. Fans of their early stuff will love this one. This album is sure to be in the running for top album of 2008.

It's hard to believe but it has been 10 years since the last Portishead album, 1998's Roseland NYC live. The new album, Third, is to be released on Mercury/Island on April 29th 2008. Portishead will appear on the main stage at Coachella on Saturday April 26, 2008. I cannot wait to hear this.

In making Last Night' i essentially tried to take a long 8 hour night out in new york city and condense it into a 65 minute long album - MOBY

What is being called a "return to the dance floor" album, Moby returns with his latest offering March 31st, with Last Night. The album builds like a night out. The high energy dance numbers start the disc out and it winds down to the late night after party vibes towards the end. Check out a 9-minute mash-up mix below.

New York indie artists, Ravens & Chimes are still riding the wave of rave reviews they received on last year's release, Reichenbach Falls. The band has drawn comparison to bands such as Arcade FIre and The Shins. On their most recent release, the band exhibits a keen ability to balance the fine line between beautifully textured instrumentation and quirky, catchy indie pop vocals.

The band will be playing SXSW in March.

There was rumors of this remix project awhile back but a cease & desist order put the brakes on it, until today, that is. Oakland producer/DJ Amplive acknowledges that he probably should have contacted Radiohead (who were not involved in the project) to seek approval prior to making his interpretations publicly available, an agreement has been reached between all involved parties and Amplive has been granted permission to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to the general public. This is actually pretty good but the source material is great to begin with so that probably helps.

Our friends at Epic Records, were kind enough to point us in the direction of newly signed artists, The Fashion. Hailing from Denmark, this indie post-punk band is already creating a buzz on MTVU and has sold out their first show in New York at the Mercury Lounge. The band's latest self titled EP has recently been released on Itunes. The Fashion has already released it's new full length in Denmark to rave reviews and Epic plans to release the CD here in the States in the Spring. The band will be playing SXSW and New York, and promises to announce more worldwide tour dates shortly.

Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees/QOTSA) and Greg Dulli (Afghan Whigs, The Twilight Singers) get a chance to collectively exercise their demons on the much-anticipated first album from The Gutter Twins, Saturnalia (March 4, Sub Pop). The duo have guested on each others solo efforts and are keeping the magic alive with what is sizing up to be a brilliant album that Past Magazine has already awarded 4 stars to.

New York rockers Semi Precious Weapons have recently released their first full length CD, We Love You. The band was voted Best New York Band in the Village Voice Readers Poll and have been getting strong reviews for their debut release . The band has been generating a ton of buzz among music critics and fans (including model Kate Moss who attended a recent show).

The band has already set dates for the first leg of their US tour in support of We Love You.

Although it might not be that cool to admit it, i like the Counting Crows. The sad slow Counting Crows as opposed to the happy Shrek soundtrack Crows. The fifth studio album (and their first in five years), Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, will be released on March 25th.

Duritz has said that, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings is “about dissolution and disintegration. It’s about when Saturday night happens and you lose all sense of yourself. And it’s about when you wake up Sunday morning and look back at the wreck you’ve made of your life and you think, 'How can I possibly fix this? How can I ever climb out of this hole?' Well, it's been awhile. Sorry for the long hiatus but life and computer problems and holidays have gotten in the way of the updates lately.

So, let's get to it. Just got the new CD, The Lost One, by Barton Carroll that is being released on Skybucket Records January 22nd. The Lost One has been described as "a mixture of the mountain music that Carroll grew up hearing in Western North Carolina, and the sweet, sad, melodic sensibility of Alex Chilton. Carroll has a sincere, durable voice well suited for storytelling and folk songs."

If you are a fan of the dark, sweet, sad songs of the alt-country genre, then you should just fire your therapist and listen to Barton Carroll. You can hear a couple tracks below from the upcoming CD including my new theme song for life, Pretty Girl's Going To Ruin My Life (Again) :)

Full-length Coming Spring 2008

Chicago indie rockers, Beast From Sea, are preparing to hit the studio to record their debut EP at Chicago Recording. The band has been kind enough to give YourStandardLIFE.com an early preview of some of their demos, and based upon what we've heard so far this is definitely a release we are looking forward to.
