The Graduate Students Association (GSA) is currently recruiting graduate students to serve on 12 Academic Senate Committees. GSA representatives to the Academic Senate Committees have a unique opportunity to discuss a variety of issues that affect the entire campus community. Serving on these committees is an exceptional way to represent and advocate for graduate students and the campus as a whole.
Yeah, uhm we're not sure what happened to the summer break either.
Start the school year off with your friends this Friday, September 18 at the LA Center on the UCLA campus. Come enjoy a glass of wine and something off the grill while socializing with your fellow graduate students and your Graduate Students Association.. The GSA is proud to welcome Australian band ASTRALALIENS to the LA Tennis Center as headlining entertainment for this annual event. Party on the Patio is a tradition not to be missed.
Spouses and significant others are always welcome.

On Friday, September 18, 2009, the Graduate Students Association (GSA) and the Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) will be hosting UCLA's annual Graduate Student Orientation. And we're looking for *CURRENT* graduate students to help make this event a success!!
As many of you may remember from your own experience as first-year graduate students, the New Graduate Student Orientation is an opportunity to welcome (1000+!) new graduate students to UCLA with a full day of workshops and panels, as well as an ASUCLA-sponsored lunch, a choice of campus tours, a resource fair including campus offices and student groups, and an introduction to the GSA GradBar!
How do you manage to keep the lights on?
As many of you know, during these difficult economic times student fees are increasing as departments across campus are decreasing graduate student support such as TAships and RAships.
For the academic year 2009-2010, graduate and professional student fees have increased 10% to:
Resident Graduate Student Fees: $10,656.50
Non-Resident Graduate Student Fees: $25,692.50
Resident Professional Student Fees: $9,642.50
Non-Resident Professional Student Fees: $21,887.50
We are therefore meeting with administrators including Graduate Division Deans and Associate Deans, collecting up-to-date information regarding 2009-2010 graduate student support, and determining appropriate next steps in our multi-layered advocacy effort, the Graduate Student Support Advocacy Plan (GSSAP). One important step in the GSSAP is hearing YOUR funding stories.
One of the major initiatives for the 2008-2009 academic year for GSA was to enhance the quality of service provided by UCLA Housing. The following documents illustrate the successes resulted from this year-long initiative, as GSA continues to make the graduate student housing experience a top priority for the upcoming year.

The Graduate Students Association, in its on-going efforts of transparency, accountability and greater engagement with administration, has displayed below statistics for the upcoming 2009-2010 academic year regarding general graduate student fees, professional non-resident student fees and professional resident student fees. The main focus and priority for GSA for the upcoming year is to ensure that graduate student funding, research assistantships and TA'ships remain as high as possible and fees are stabilized as much as possible in this economic environment.
The Graduate Students Association has worked with the Office of Student Affairs to acquire information about the structure of the UC Budget, as every student's knowledge and awareness should be enhanced of this all-important subject matter given the current fiscal climate.
