---Read Eriq's blog and then watch the keynote yourself to get a background on this post.. I've gotten several smb partners here say they got the same feelings regarding that keynote---
If I were Mrs. Ballmer and if I were on on stage yesterday I would have been jabbing him in the side and saying Steve, honey you didn't get your point across. His comment about "if you don't want to be in the cloud, we don't want you as a partner" is what people heard. The message he was supposed to be giving is that Microsoft is wanting to position themselves as a on premise solution, to a hybrid solution of on premises+hosted/cloud services, and then to an all hosted model. Their goal is to keep the on premises model and keep that strength and add to that cloud versions of what we're used to in the premise solutions.
But Steve, you blew that message. Your Blah blah blah comment read to many that you aren't listening as well. Yeah I would have been stomping you on the foot and giving you the evil eye across the dinner table if I was Mrs. Ballmer on that one as well.
It may have been the news you wanted Wall Street and analysts to hear but this is your Partner audience. The people that you need to keep, build and expand on your business.
So Steve, sweetie, next time, mind your manners. You should have used this opportunity to tell your partners that you are the company to give them the ability to federate across the cloud and the on premises with active directory. That's how you are "all in".
Oh and honey, the partners are getting tired of the buzz words too. See if you can use other phrases honey. You are using some of them way way too much. When they start making drinking games surrounding the buzz words you keep using in your speeches, we need to come up with different words for you.
To answer Joe's question about inplace-upgrade-ability you have to remember the parts that will be in SBS v7(next) that will migrated to.. Exchange 2010.
And is there an inplace migration to ability from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010?
The answer is no you must do another move mailboxes routine to get from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010.
So... therefore is there an inplace upgrade from SBS 2008 to SBS v7(next)
Do the math. The answer is it''s a migration.
But there is a clarification/correction that needs to be made to Paul Thurrott's SBS ariticle http://www.winsupersite.com/events/wpc10.asp and in particular this one - http://www.winsupersite.com/server/sbs7_preview.asp
That is, Aurora cannot be added to an existing Active Directory (AD) domain. Instead, it must be the first server in a new domain. This will limit its uptake with existing customers, and I suspect that is very much on purpose.
There actually will be a migration plan for Aurora and it won't be clean install/forget your entire exisitng AD like it implies there.
Stay tuned for more as the preview betas get released in August.

Arrived in hot humid sticky DC, however bags are still in route (hey good excuse for going shopping 'eh?)
Now respackling the face to head over to the convention center/Verizon venue.
And the delayed luggage is the airlines karma for the fact that I got an upgraded seat last night for the flight from SF to DC.

Given that I'm seeing this on two separate servers, one a 2k8 the other a 2k8 r2, I'm not going to do anything at this time but hang loose and see what's up. I honestly don't think it's corruption on my part but possibly something funky on MS's part.
If you are seeing this too, hang loose and don't follow what I previously posted on eventid.net
I have been getting the warning that my SharePoint config file is greater than a gig.
And I recently got it again.... So... how do you keep the BPA from warning me like that?
Flip the SharePoint config database from Full to simple.
Find the SQL management tools and run as admin to launch them.
Then connect to \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query
And drill down to the SharePoint config database
Right mouse click on properties and drill down to the options section
And flip the recovery model to simple from full
When you clean up WSUS, do each one separatey if you haven"t cleaned up WSUs in a long time. Don't try to run all of them at the same time.

Unless you've bumped it up to L2TP or IPSec, you'll click on the PPTP tab
Server name = IP address of your server
Account = your user name
Password is your password
RSA off
Send all traffic on
To connect, click on
Now use an RDP app as you need

HP Mini Netbooks with CloudDrive Have Nearly Limitless Storage:
http://jkontherun.com/2010/01/05/hp-mini-netbooks-with-clouddrive-have-nearly-limitless-storage/
http://www.hp.com/sbso/solutions/pc_expertise/professional_innovations/quickweb.pdf
Bought a new HP mini the other day and the amount of addition software put on here is not only interesting from a "do I need it, will it need updating, what is the security risk" standpoint but also the amount of additional code that HP is putting on these netbooks to add value and give more of a computing experience. Two examples..... a cloud storage drive on the box and an alternative dual boot browser only platform for secure browsing.
Interesting.... and neither one are Microsoft platforms.
It's clean up time at the server at the office... have you run your WSUS clean up routines?
