Okay, so this podcast really isn’t about getting iPhones for all of our veterans but i do talk about my appreciation for both this week. I also talk about the Droid which I played with for a little while.

Two promos are played this week, one for JTIndie.com and the other for Pilgrim’s Progress.

This week’s spiritual know-how is a reading and commentary on Psalm 11.

Podcasting for Water logo generously provided by Dave Avila

Podcasting for Water logo generously provided by Dave Avila

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped raise money for Podcasting for Water. I’m truly humbled at the outpouring from podcasters, donors and complete strangers. Together, to date, we have raised $1,980 which benefits Living Water International.

Many people have donated and I could easily start listing off the dozens of people who have done so but some have donated anonymously (intentionally or unintentionally) and I would not want to leave them off of the list.

There are also a number of podcasters who have donated their time, money and attention to the cause. Again, I could start listing names and podcasts but I’m sure it would be incomplete.

Sponsor: Try GotoAssist Express free for 30 days! For this special offer, visit www.GotoAssist.com/techpodcast

So let me say thank you. Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your time. Thank you for your attention. Thank you for playing promos. Thank you for recruiting members to the cause. Thank you for spreading the word.

So where do we go from here? Am I finished? Well, let’s talk about what’s going on right now.

Brad and Faith McFadden are currently releasing a podcast a day. You can pledge an amount to Podcasting for Water to encourage them in their goal to release 100 consecutive podcasts. Details about that can be found here. Register for the forums and leave your pledge.

Brad’s brother, Cary, has pledged $1 per voice mail received and played on the show. Voice mail has to be left between 7PM CST on 10/11/2009 and 7PM CST on 10/12/2009. Details about that contest can be found here.

I’m working on another contest for the month of November. Suffice it to say it will have something to do with moisture farms.

I’m not finished. I have committed to doing this for 1 year. I started in January and will stop (maybe) on December 31st. I do have plans to do more with social media and charities. I hope to make an announcement about that soon.

Finally (not really), here’s some information from LWI about the water crisis:

Almost a billion people lack access to clean, safe water.

Half of the world’s hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from water-related diseases.

The last time you flushed your toilet, you used more water than the average person in the developing world uses all day for washing, cooking, cleaning, and drinking.

Living Water International is addressing the most basic of physical needs by helping deprived communities acquire safe, clean water. Our goal is to substantially ease the global water crisis while addressing root causes such as injustice, oppression, and abject poverty. Our passion is to see communities and worldviews transformed, both among those in desperate physical need and among those who have been blessed with much.

LWI has completed more than 6,500 water projects which provide clean, safe water to more than 7.5 million people every day. The organization provides training and volunteer opportunities. LWI is currently at work in 26 countries: Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Malawi, Haiti, Peru, Brazil, Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Angola, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, India, Zambia, and Romania.

You can make a difference! One dollar will provide clean drinking water for one person for one year.

Again, thank you everyone for your generosity.

I played promos for New World Army and Great Hites.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a great free option for Windows users looking for basic virus protection. Make sure you change your password for your online email accounts because thousands of usernames and passwords were hacked and posted online.

Feel free to leave comments or send feedback to geek{at}jesusgeek{dot}info. Call 518-290-0228 to leave your voice mail! If you’d like to record an mp3 audio comment, send it to geek{at}jesusgeek{dot}info.

This week features part one of an interview I did with Winston Crutchfield, fellow podcaster and publisher of the book Pathfinder which documents the role of Native Americans in World War II, including articles about the 82nd Airborne, Navajo Code Talkers, ceremonial dances in the South Pacific, and an oral history from 1st Sgt Hilton.

Part of the proceeds from Pathfinder benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, so you can support our veterans by purchasing a copy today.

01_obamaspeechintroyPresident Obama visited HVCC today and spoke about the economy and how it has affected areas like upstate NY. He spoke about how HVCC and other colleges in the area are the future of education in the country so that we can participate in a global economy.

As a homeschooler I have a different point of view when it comes to the future of education in our country and preparing students for college. I share that in today’s walk and talk. This is actually the second one I’ve done. The previously recorded on will be released at a later date.

Today’s guest host is Scott Roche, author of Archangel. He discusses the topic of getting what you pay for when it comes to technology. As a fellow support-geek, he knows as well as I do the importance of paying a little extra for something you can rely on.

Don’t neglect to check out his work. It features a cameo by yours truly.

On the 25th I’ll return to my regular schedule and announce a new contest related to Podcasting for Water. I hope you’ll tune in!
