The popular peripheral manufacturer Hori has revealed a new accessory aimed specifically for Monster Hunter fans combining a 3DS grip with a circle pad.  Players with experience from Monster Hunter games from the Playstation Portable series will be easily reminded of the claw.3ds_slide_pad_back_shoulders

The Extended Slide Pad moves the slide pad from the right hand side of the console to the top, allowing you to effectively control movement and camera with only your left hand.  If you’re suddenly missing the ZL button, don’t worry, it’s just been moved underneath the grip.

Heavens!  Finally, Sega seems to be warming up to non-Japanese Vocaloid fans outside Japan.  A few months after the release (and subsequent success) of it’s first international title for the Hatsune Miku Project Diva franchise , Project Diva F, many had wondered if Sega will give Project Mirai the same treatment.  And now we have that answer :)

mirai-western-release

Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI Remix (working title), an enhanced version of the popular Japanese video game Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI 2, will launch in the West on Nintendo 3DS in 2015!

A fan favorite franchise, Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI Remix will mark the first release from the Project MIRAI series outside of Japan and also the first appearance of Hatsune Miku game on a Nintendo platform outside of Japan.

Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI Remix features characters rendered in beautiful stereoscopic 3D, with two different rhythm game modes (button and touch) and three difficulties per song.

Players will enjoy a highly customizable experience with user customization options for button icons and sounds, character costumes and gear for the character rooms.

Players can create and share personalized player cards that show off who you are as well as create customized dance routines to the songs, your own musical phrase and personalized comments about their favorite in-game videos, all via StreetPass.

The game also utilizes the AR card and photo capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS to bring characters to life in 3D.

“Hatsune Miku’s popularity in the West keeps growing, and we are proud to support such an amazing franchise with our games,” said John Cheng, President and COO, SEGA of America.

No more fretting over Nintendo’s old-school region-lock :)

Sony has been pushing devs to provide support for the PlayStation Vita with their PlayStation 4 titles and it natural to assume that the company will start bundling both consoles.  According to the image  provided byVideogamer, it seems like it’s happening sooner rather than later.

2387039-ps4psvitaAs with all PlayStation-related rumors, Sony has yet to confirm if the bundle will materialize.

The price of the recently launched PlayStation 4 is currently $400, and the PlayStation Vita sells for $200 making a mid-$500 price for the bundle very likely.

If you’ve missed out on The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Limited Edition 3DS, Nintendo is giving you a chance to jump aboard on a new super-sized Zelda themed console. This new 3DS XL takes its visual motif from The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which you’ll be getting to get a hold of this finely designed console.

Despite the numerous “OH GOD WHY” reactions when Valve first unveiled their controller for the upcoming Steam OS (and the steambox iterations), I was looking forward as to how Valve will tackle a the control problem on the PC space. In a word, impressive.

Valve’s demo video below shows  Portal 2, Civilization V, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.  being played using the dual trackpads.

Valve says the controller will be user-mappable so while it’s not a definite replacement to the mouse and keyboard, it’s impressive to see how well it can be adapted to which control scheme you’re more comfortable with (WASD + mouse or console-style, dual sticks).

One of the major advantages of subscribing to PlayStation Plus is having your console automatically download patches, content and even firmware updates at a pre-set time so it won’t interfere with your game time — who wants to pop down the couch, open your PS3 and load the game only to see that a mandatory update is required before you can even play?

The upcoming version 4.50 for the PlayStation 3 firmware will be bringing this feature to non-PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Also in the pipeline, data transfer between the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita using a network connection (WiFi and ethernet) which should alleviate the slooooooooooooow transfer via the propriety USB cable.

Full list of features available below:

  • Auto download of system software updates has been expanded to support all PSN users.
  • Auto download support of purchases made on the Web Store will be made available to all PSN users.
  • New options for trophy privacy settings allow users to set which trophies are visible.
  • Data can now be transferred from PS3 to PS Vita using wi-fi and ethernet connection.

The new firmware is expected to release sometime next week.

Not satisfied with the price drops for Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan and Shin Megami Tensei: Soul Hackers? Not to worry, Atlus has heard you.

Starting today, Shin Megami Tensei IV will cost $10 less for both digital and physical copies of the game.

Unfortunately it’s a temporary price drop for the game’s initial $49.99 cost — a tad pricier than standard 3DS games — and the promotion will run only until October 14.

IRVINE, Calif. – Oct. 1, 2013 – Beginning today, the mature, demon-collecting role playing game Shin Megami Tensei IV will be discounted to $39.99 through Oct. 14. The $10 price drop will be available both in stores and in the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS. This is the first discount promotion for this highly rated entry in the SMT series since its initial release in July. Available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS system, Shin Megami Tensei IV puts players in the role of a Samurai, a protector of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado, where players will struggle in the battle between law and chaos.

As a newly appointed Samurai in Shin Megami Tensei IV, players will struggle with factions that have nefarious designs on the world as they defend their home kingdom from a growing army of demons. Decisions players make throughout the course of the story will have lasting repercussions, as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

Shin Megami Tensei IV is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. More details are available on the official website at http://www.atlus.com/smt4. This promotion only runs through Oct. 14, after which the game will revert to its previous price of $49.99.

After months of teasing with costumes, gameplay screenshots, etc, we finally get to see the opening cinematic for the upcoming installment to Final Fantasy XIII. The opening video of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII starts with a brief glimpse at the extravagant city of Yusnaan followed by an action-packed encounter between Lightning and her former Ally Snow.

Square Enix says there are 80 outfits for Lightning in the game, including a costume based on Yuna from Final Fantasy 10, Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 and Aerith as well (wait, what?), Miqo’te from Final Fantasy XIV, etc. Despite the DLC fest, it still looks to be an interesting turning point in the Final Fantasy XIII timeline.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 11th, 2014 .

Earlier this month, Nintendo has discontinued the Cosmo Black and Ice White variants of the original Nintendo 3DS console. On the upside, there will be two new units to replace them called the Clear Black and Pure White.

Do note that these new 3DS aren’t XL models.

What’s interesting here is that Nintendo will be targeting their launch date on October 10, the same date as Sony will be launching their new PlayStation Vita PCH-2000 models. Tinfoil thinking aside, it’s probably to bolster console supplies for the upcoming release of Pokemon X & Y.

Sadly there’s no news if these units will get a western release :|.

Haven’t picked up Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner:Soul Hackers yet?  Atlus is giving you more reason to bring out your wallets and buy them as the publisher officially gave both titles a permanent price drop.

  • Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is now $29.99 (was $39.99)
  • Etrian Odyssey IV: The Legends of the Titan is now $29.99 (was $39.99)

Steam will soon be getting it’s very own operating system as Valve officially announces the Steam OS.

steam-os

According to Valve’s press release, SteamOS is designed for living rooms that “combines the rock-solid architecture of Linux with a gaming experience built for the big screen.”  So yes, sooner or later, PC couch gaming will no longer be an issue.

So what does having SteamOS give you exactly, well:

In-home Streaming

You can play all your Windows and Mac games on your SteamOS machine, too. Just turn on your existing computer and run Steam as you always have – then your SteamOS machine can stream those games over your home network straight to your TV!

Music, TV, Movies

We’re working with many of the media services you know and love. Soon we will begin bringing them online, allowing you to access your favorite music and video with Steam and SteamOS.

Family Sharing

In the past, sharing Steam games with your family members was hard. Now you can share the games you love with the people you love. Family Sharing allows you to take turns playing one another’s games while earning your own Steam achievements and saving your individual game progress to the Steam cloud.

Family Options

The living-room is family territory. That’s great, but you don’t want to see your parents’ games in your library. Soon, families will have more control over what titles get seen by whom, and more features to allow everyone in the house to get the most out of their Steam libraries.

And most importantly for games, Valve says they’ve already got hundreds of games that will come to the new operating system next year.  Hopefully that means when it’s available, we’ll be able to access our Steam catalog via the mentioned “in-home streaming.”   If that hasn’t sinked in, yes you still need a dedicated machine to run your games on.

And for the most important part: pricing.   As with Steam, SteamOS will be available soon as a free download for users and as a freely licensable operating system for manufacturers.

With the release of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1 just a few weeks away, many fans have been wondering if Compile Heart will be continuing the trend with other Hyperdimension Neptunia titles. During this year’s Tokyo Game Show, the company has officially announced Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 2, a remake of Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 for PlayStation Vita.

Yeah guys, looks like Nepnep is going portable only, which is good for the Vita.

Now while we wait for more news about what’s changed in Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 2, we’ll have to start bugging NIS America for the localization of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1 :D.

President and CEO of Naoto Hiraoka has sent out an official press release to address the acquisition of Index by Sega Sammy. He apologize for the worry that the company’s recent troubles and this recnt buyout may have caused fans.

Sega Sammy Holdings, Sega’s parent company is set to buy Index Corporation, Atlus’ parent company for $140 million earlier this week.

Dear fans and customers,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for your support of Atlus products.

As announced Tuesday through various news channels, we are going to continue with our business operations as part of Sega Sammy Holdings effective November 1, 2013.

As you may already know, Index Corporation filed for Civil Rehabilitation Proceedings in Japan on June 27 and since then, has been searching for a solution which would allow us to continue our business of making great games.

Atlus has consistently received support and praise from our faithful and our respected customers, and made great progress in recent years. So the recent incident must have surprised and worried all of you dearly. For that, I would like to express my deepest apologies.

We have nurtured a great relationship with Sega Inc. for a long time, especially concerning our consumer games business in Japan. I believe the collaboration between the two companies at this time will be mutually beneficial for the following reasons:

  • Sega understands our drive to achieve quality and to expand awareness of the Atlus brand.
  • Our respective strengths in game development complement each other well.
  • We are extremely happy to be able to continue with our business, and be able to report this good news to our fans and customers. Again, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported us.
  • Currently, we at the Consumer Software Division in Japan are focusing on developing future titles, and are willing to take on new challenges to further achieve growth and success.

Please stay tuned for future updates.
