It feels like more and more troubling issues face kids today. And while we can't alleviate the troubles, we can help make sure they have the knowledge they need to make the right decisions.

The likiest of ways to get around if the bus doesn't go where you want, is to ride a bike. But in traffic? Ugh. I actually once saw a guy get pinned between a car and someone opening their car door without looking. Ride safely, my friend.

Not everyone owns a car or a bike. There are several car sharing companies already established, but what is this bike sharing all about?

The only time I feel unsafe taking a subway or bus is when it's actually pulling up near me. Once I'm on it, it's always been perfectly A-OK. But it is really as safe as I think?

Even though HIV and AIDS are associated, they are not the same thing.

Now before you click through, be prepared to click more than once. We have all the names broken out (for boys and girls) by letter. Don't bother with the B's for boys, though. Bob will fit for you boy just fine. Get ideas for names here!

Two places in this article stand out: factories and libraries. I think most kids would love to see today's machinery whizzing around making things. And libraries... I agree with Susan, our Guide to Grandparents, that enough children haven't visited a non-school library. Ever. Show your grandkids things they don't normally see.

Based on my just-made-up-now rules, the girl names totally trounce the boy names. Have a favorite?

With twins I thought it came down to "Good one" and "Evil one", no? But which name is the evil name?

Hey! I didn't know these were real. Of course I saw them in the movie, but who knew they were based on real life? Clearly a lot of people did, but cut me some slack, I'm just catching up. The real Cozy Cone!

I guess the Grand Canyon isn't weird unless you think of it as a hole in the ground. But if you think that way after visiting, maybe the Grand Canyon isn't the weird one.

I don't know how people who own pools can sleep at night. My level of paranoia is so high that I think I'd just keep the pool empty. I'd call it my open underground bunker. You'd still have to wear goggles. How to keep your pool safe.

I'm never going hiking. Why? Here are the following places I've gotten lost: a grocery store, a friend's studio apartment and a book. Inside is where it's at.

SP What?   New window

What SPF rating should you be using? If that's all you wanted to know, then the answer is 30. But did you know how often you're supposed to reapply sunscreen? And you're suppose to cover up what? My idea of playing video games in my basement is looking better than ever.

I think that Diana, our Guide to Southern Food, is the tops. But if she thinks I'm ready to help my kids make any of these things, she's going to be sorely disappointed. Last time I cooked a Diana recipe, I ended up going out to get bagels for us. And the firefighters. These are hard breakfasts, right?

To clear the air (ha, puns!), not only I have never been near a volcano and I've never been to L.A. So I don't have first-hand knowledge of city smog. What is it?

Having a pet means maybe not having the cleanest house. I keep going up to Mr. Peterson and telling him that once he... you know... walks the purple valley, the house is gonna be a lot cleaner. Then he meows, bumps my face and lays in my lap. Aw! Maybe next year, Mr. Peterson. Maybe next year. Cleaning your indoor air.
