I listen to old Madonna more than I should admit. Kim completely ruined this song for me (not really) when she told me what really goes on at peep shows! Here I thought they were classier joints where young fellas waited outside with their hearts a flutter, and went dancing off into the sunset.
Outfit details:
pink lace top - thrifted
grey skirt - thrifted, altered
grey fishnets - not sure
pink socks - forever 21
grey heels - Jeffrey Campbell
Cambridge Zip Top Tote - courtesy of Coach
The makeup I used can be seen here.
The socks were an afterthought - more of a warm-my-toes decision than a fashion choice. Sometimes you just have to keep your feeties from freezing (my coat was removed for the pictures).

Keiko Lynn

Yana, fellow kitty cat lover, has been taking care of a homeless kitty that showed up at her deck. She is searching for a home for her, or even a no kill shelter that will take her in and care for her until she is placed. If you want to take the pretty girl in, know someone who will, or know of a great shelter with free space, please let Yana know. Spread the word!
Yana's blog can be seen here, along with a picture of the kitty.

I often receive cosmetics in gift bags and in the mail, and there is nothing more fun than testing them all out. After a disastrous day with a crappy concealer and vanishing lipstick, I took my own advice and played with some new makeup on a less hectic day. The irony is that I ended up liking this makeup more, and it didn't budge the whole day. Even through brunch and a mid afternoon nap. What did I use? Naturally, I made an itemized list, just in case you want to recreate this look or something similar. It seems like a whole lot of products for such a subtle look:
Face:
- I prepped my whole face with Smashbox Photo Finish. This is by far my favorite primer - it makes your face silky smooth; it's the perfect base for makeup. Think of it as a gesso, only for your face! I was so happy to find this in my gift bag from the Seychelles preview, because I've been out of it for so long. If you want to pick some up for yourself, here's a tip that I have always employed: buy the travel size, instead. At .5 oz, you can buy two and get the same amount as the full size and save $4.
- I applied Christopher Drummond concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes. This concealer is awesome. Maybe it's because I usually just use a bit of foundation or some cheap crap I got at the drug store, but I was impressed with the coverage and overall look of this. Bonus: their makeup is organic and they don't test on animals (same goes for all of the products I'm listing). At $22.50, I feel like this is worth the price.
- I then dusted Christopher Drummond Veludo Velvet Foundation in Light over my whole face. I usually don't like loose powders because they are too similar to chalk, and we all know I hate chalk as much as I hate styrofoam. Everyone is always raving about mineral makeup and I decided to give it a go. *Pros: The coverage is nice and even, without looking cakey. It didn't budge all day, even when I used it without the primer. It also didn't irritate my skin at all and that is a rare thing, with my sensitive skin. *Cons: At $65, the price is way out of my range. Also, I still can't get over loose powders and chalk being cousins.
Eyes/brows:
- No matter what I am doing with my eyes, I always, always use MAC paint all over my lids. In this case, I used Bare Canvas. Paints make your shadows pop and keep your liner from slipping, creasing and giving you raccoon eyes.
- I did an initial line on my top lashline with MAC fluidline in blacktrack. This is my favorite liner, period.
- Lashes! I have short, straight lashes - even when I put a ton of mascara on and curl them, nothing. I took full advantage of the lashes Revlon sent to me. These have a self adhesive, which made them a cinch to put on. I was worried they would drift throughout the day but they stayed put. I chose a more subtle pair for this look (I believe they're called flirty). After applying the lashes, I went over them with another line of fluidline and some Prescriptives mascara.
- For a little bit of shimmer, I used Christopher Drummond's radiance booster on my brow bone and near my tear ducts. I don't think that's the intended use but it looked really pretty!
- Let's not even talk about the brows. It's a sensitive subject. I lost my 266 MAC brush and haven't found a suitable replacement. It was a special edition holiday brush with stiffer bristles, which is why I can't replace it with the regular one (it's too soft). Is the new holiday brush kit's 266SE suitable for brows? I'm wondering if it's worth paying $50 when I only need one of the brushes.
Cheeks and lips:
- Enter my new holy grail makeup product: Julie Hewett cheekie cheek and lip shine, in Bette. I received this way back in September in my Coach gift bag and only recently started using it. It somehow ended up on my mantle and was forgotten until just last week. Now I can't stop using it. It gives the perfect amount of flush to the cheeks and lips and doesn't budge. It also doesn't irritate my lips (another rarity) and has the perfect amount of pigment. A little goes a really long way. I just smudged it on with my finger; it makes it look more natural. I want to buy this in every color (it comes in seven shades). It is perfect. Does anyone have experience with any other Julie Hewett products? I'm curious.

Keiko Lynn

One of these days, I'll get caught up and won't be writing about things that happened two weeks ago. One of these days. I had a very busy week, complete with actual social outings. Gasp! The hermit left her habitat not once but three times in the week, for something other than errands and work. In an effort to catch up to relevant events, here is what you missed, in three parts.
1) Two lunch dates with three lovely girls!

First, lunch at Red Cat with Vanessa and Cara. I love them! Apparently I decided to dress up as a little boy from a period film. What the heck. I don't know what to tell you guys. The hat made it even more ridiculous, but my ears were killing me and I needed something to cover them. Despite my odd little costume, we had a great lunch and they brought me my little envelope clutch (the ones we got to design/oversee at Coach). Pictures of that later! Outfit details: thrifted blazer, vintage beret, antique blouse, vintage bow, vintage belt, 4 stroke jeans? or maybe forever 21, vintage boots.

The next day, I had lunch at Ella with Pamela from Market Publique. After lunch, we headed over to their space down the street. They gave me these amazing vintage orange gloves that match my coat perfectly! I put them on immediately; my fingers were frozen. I'll give them a proper debut later in the week, now that the weather is going back to lower levels. I also picked up a really freaking cute necklace for a giveaway...wait until you see it next week! Outfit Details: vintage beret, vintage coat, vintage dress, forever 21 shirt, Market Publique vintage gloves, thrifted belt, Target tights, ModCloth shoes.
After our lunch, I fell down an entire flight of stairs at the station. It not only hurt like crazy, it also ruined the heels of my shoes. I am so graceful.
2) We rescued a pup and found a new home for him!

While thrifting in Long Island, we came across this little guy. He was tied to a pole with a rope and had no collar. We found out he had been there for over seven hours - someone abandoned him. We took him home, obviously! After calling shelters and posting on craigslist, we pretty much confirmed what we already knew - no one was looking for him. We found him a loving new home. Kim and I both cried when we dropped him off. He is the sweetest, cuddliest little pup. He just melts in your arms.
3) My Lloyd Dobler dreams came true!

Kim and I were surrounded by the Lloyd Dobler "Mobler" and they all held their boomboxes above their heads, playing "In Your Eyes." It was probably one of the best things that has ever happened to us. I was laughing so hard, I started tearing up. They didn't know it at the time, but I knew one of the Lloyds...so we knew what was going on. Yep, that's Bobby on the right!

A crowd of Lloyd Doblers went around the city with their boomboxes above their heads, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of "Say Anything." Some recipients were bewildered, others annoyed (I saw one in particular that looked so angry), but most got a huge kick out of it. One girl even posted on missed connections, saying how they made all of her dreams come true. That's a girl after my own heart! We couldn't help but smile all day.
Now you're all caught up! What was your week like?

I hate doing laundry. Mainly because it means I have to go to the laundromat. I miss the days of in house washing machines and dryers - I left those in Florida with central air and swimming pools, boo. I'm a spoiled little brat and Bobby always does my laundry. When he doesn't get around to it, I just make new clothes! That's what I did for this outfit; I had nothing to wear, so I made a dress. When my clothes no longer fit into the hamper and are strewn about the floor, you know it's time for me to suck it up and do laundry. The best/worst part about all of this is that I made the dress that morning, and was late because I spent more time on it than I thought I would. I messed up the bodice and had to hack off an inch and a half, because I didn't have time to start over. It ended up being a less flattering, baby doll style. But you know, at least I wasn't naked.
I look miserable in that last picture because I was in a horrible mood and was running super late for the Seychelles preview. I'm always running late. Once I got there, I had a great time. I met some really awesome gals and gents, oohed and ahhed over all of the beautiful new designs and even got my nails done. It was all fine and good until I got on the train and realized that I had eyeliner all under my eyes and my lipstick was just a line around my lips. Word to the wise: don't ever try out new makeup products when you are going out. Try them out at home first and stick to your staples when in doubt! I looked like a clown. Lesson learned!

These photos are from over a week ago, maybe even two? Whenever the casting for Rachel Roy's lookbook was (I can hardly keep my days straight anymore and I keep forgetting to post outfits as they happen). I was equally nervous and flattered when I was approached about attending the casting; they were looking for "normal" girls as opposed to models. Hey, I'm a normal girl! I can do that! It's actually something that 2008 me would have turned down merely out of cowardice, but this year has been about working on my self confidence and kicking myself in the pants. Last January I made a resolution that I have actually kept and intend to keep forever - to stop turning things down just because I'm a little scaredy cat!
So, off to the casting I went. When I got there, I saw a huge list of names before my own, most with agencies. Where were the normal girls? Half tempted to lie about my measurements on the form (I didn't), I started to get a little flustered and became extremely aware of myself and just how normal I really am in comparison. I started babbling and smiling a lot when my pictures were being taken. Let's just say I won't be in the pages of a lookbook anytime soon. It was never meant to be! I may be a little too normal, a little too fidgety and a little too smiley, but the fact that they even considered me makes me feel pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.

This week has been full of physical and emotional ups and downs. Such is the delight and absolute anguish of a young lady's life! Overall, I am mostly happy happy with a hint of stressed the heck out for no particular reason other than being a worrier. I've just been busy, sick (I'm always sick) and missing my friends and family something fierce. I have this overwhelming need to build a fort, have a sleepover and hug and laugh and be sillypants. Luckily, I have just the right people in mind for that, and the holidays are just around the corner.
My life is far from perfect by any stretch. But gosh darn it, I am lucky in love. Family, friends and otherwise.

I know this little dress is a) wrinkled (from sewing all day) and b) silly with those little bloomers underneath but helloooo, it has bloomers and that was too ridiculous to pass up! They would have been a little more subtle with black tights but there's nothing subtle about this outfit anyway. I'm wearing sequins on my head. And fake glasses. Plus, I was really excited to finally have true red tights. It's really odd but ever since my one pair got a run in them, I've been completely unable to find another pair. If you're looking for a pair of great, true red tights, make sure you check out the scarlet red (not red - those are darker) tights at We Love Colors. They actually have every color imaginable - hence the name, so it can be a one stop shop for all of your solid tights. I have had the site bookmarked forever but never ordered anything, since I didn't know what the quality was like. They're really great, very dense and highly opaque. No more cheap-o thin tights for me...I've spent a ton of money on tights that I was only able to wear once or twice. My top recommendations: H&M (the regular ones, not Divided - the higher denier count the better), Hue (they last forever) and We Love Colors. Any others I should check out?

In addition to my hunt for true red tights, I've also been searching for the perfect red lipstick and Fresh Minerals offered to send some options for me to try out. One is more of a rusty, orange tinted red (pretty, but not red enough) and the other is the one I'm wearing here, "Love Bites." It has blue undertones, which works well with my cool complexion but I wouldn't recommend it for people with warmer tones. I think my favorite red lipstick so far is MAC's Russian Red (it's more of a true red), but I'm still on the hunt. This one has a satiny finish and is more of an every day-ish option; it goes on smoothly and makes a statement, so I can wear it whenever I'm feeling lazy and need a quick makeup routine. That's the beauty of bold lips - you can wear minimal makeup elsewhere! I just paired the red lips with simple liner and some new mineral foundation I've been trying out (I like this so far but I'm still in trial mode...no review on that yet).
Mineral Foundation - Christopher Drummond
Brow liner - random pencil that I hate...I need to pick up my MAC dipdown fluidline
Petticoat Skinfinish (cheeks) - MAC
BadGal Lash - Benefit
Blacktrack Fluidline - MAC
"Love Bites" mineral lipstick - Fresh Minerals
p.s. My two questions are: What other red lipsticks should I try? Who makes your favorite tights?

Kim has been bugging me to put up the Halloween pictures and I'm finally getting around to it! Now that it's November, they almost seem irrelevant. Isn't it funny how just a few days pass and it feels like ages?
Halloween was so much fun this year, but it got off to a rocky start. Everything we planned ended up falling apart and we were beginning to think we might as well just stay in and carve our pumpkins. In the end, we decided that trick or treating with my aunt, cousin and her two kids would be the most fun, so we were all set. Then my Aunt Nikki's flight booking got mixed up and she missed her flight! It didn't look like she would be able to make it and we were bummed. At the last minute, she was able to find a cheap ticket and we also got invitations to Joonbug.com's 8th Annual Halloween Masquerade Ball at Espace. I spent the day with the lil ones and family and the night with my friends. It was perfect! Though I'm not a party person (I don't drink OR dance...I'm a fuddy dud), I had a lot of fun at the party. There were some amazing costumes and some very awkward/hilarious happenings going on. Plus, girls were hitting on Bobby left and right (in front of me!) and it's really funny to see him blush. Now for the pictures!

My Aunt Nikki was the cutest Raggedy Ann I've ever seen. We met up with her, Shana, Pio and their boys Jack and Nate for trick or treating in the neighborhood. There were so many incredible costumes! Nate and Jack can be seen at the top of this post, next to their friend Little Red Riding Hood. They were both Batman!

This boy was in character all of the time. Someone dangled a ring in front of him and he went wild.

Three cute little girls with those funny little kid smiles.

The cutest little Max I have EVER seen!

Harry Potter!

We ran into another Bert and Mary! I was so jealous that she had the real umbrella. Why didn't I think of that?!

Kim was one of my childhood idols, Jem. If you don't remember Jem and the Holograms, stop making me feel old.

Last, but certainly not least, Miku was a squirrel. A mix of cute and creepy, it was a huge hit. She was really upset when I took it off of her. She tried to put it back on!
