To pack or not to pack them, that's the question...? You just never can tell if or when all those milk tops and corks might come in really, really handy...I didn't used to collect things but I'm also going to start wearing purple soon - well, why wait?... WarningWhen I am an old woman I shall wear purpleWith a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.And I shall spend my pension on

Hello!   New window

I kept forgetting to blog about the Hello! Royal Wedding issue for Peter Philips and Autumn Kelly. Not being a great celeb follower, I have probably only ever bought two or three issues of Hello! - but a royal wedding and my being generally idle (en route to Paris) while it was on sale were reason enough to merit the extravagance.Fabulous, I say - well worth the £2 to see them all dressed up in

The Devil may wear Prada but the Pope certainly does not the Vatican has revealed. In an unusual move the Osservatore Romano, the Holy See's official newspaper, published a report dismissing the widely held belief. It has been reported several times that the Pope's bright red shoes are made by the Italian designer when in cat they are the work of a humble cobbler. However the Pope is a fan

Well, I've been busy seeing to 'the Dalek' compost bin, which, up until a couple of months ago, I'd been filling religiously for about two years. I thought it was well nigh past time to stop putting stuff in and to start taking the compost out! It took a while, but the compost has now been liberated from the Dalek, which is standing empty in a corner.Sorting out the compost is turning out to be

Hmm...the last set of tweaks and the template change I made to the blog was driving me crazy because there was a delay in loading the body of the page in Firefox - fine in Internet Explorer, but does anyone still use IE since the advent of Firefox? Anyway, I have lost the bit of code which turns on or off the Blogger navigation bar - I might add it in again at some point but it's just associated

In the past few weeks we took the decision to have both our dogs euthanised - first, Bowie, the border collie, who was thirteen, and who, while basically still physically healthy apart from a weak heart and a touch of arthritis, had become cranky beyond all remedy or reason. She was a much loved dog though she was utterly neurotic and often disagreeable - she loved everyone, excepting vets,

Just want to trash the (local) myth of my having a wardrobe full of designer clothes in which I like to do the housework...I don't know which bitch, male or female, started it, but it never was true, except for the Ralph Lauren shirt, which I have often worn to do the housework for the last fifteen years - and yes, it is the same shirt, and I love it, but it's ripe by now, obviously. There's not much use in feigning surprise at the 'revelations' due on tomorrow evening's BBC Panorama special on backstreet child labour being used in the finishing of garments for the popular high street store Primark - I hope they are not going to make out that we all had absolutely no idea such things could be going on; we're not stupid, who couldn't work out that if the cost of a t-shirt is

I’m wondering why anonymity, often under the guise of an unrelated username, is still considered by so many to be a good thing. I don’t see very much good in it ‘enabling’ people to say things online which they wouldn’t otherwise feel able to say; it’s not as if ‘being free from inhibition’ is always desirable when people don’t always choose to use the tools at their disposal in a good

Allotment   New window

Mmm... Garlic, onions and strawberries from my uncle's allotments in Cardiff -he has a double plot and this year was judged second in a 'best allotment' contest, though he's only been allotment keeping for a little over a year. Can't get much nicer than this, methinks and soup it shall be, today.:-)

The Neil Diamond concert was fabulous; he performed with awesome energy for two and a quarter hours and sang at least all these (probably I have forgotten one or two) but not necessarily in this order:Holly Holy; Beautiful Noise; Brooklyn Roads; Solitary Man; Done Too Soon; Red, Red Wine; Love on the Rocks; I am, I said; Forever in Blue Jeans; Sweet Caroline; Home Before Dark; Pretty Amazing

Otherwise headed, 'Richard Makes the Coffee'... (Richard = DH) seriously though, it virtually exploded as he depressed the plunger and it's a wonder he didn't have any injury from it - not just from the broken glass, but from the scalding coffee going everywhere...Do I have a vague recollection of the leaflet which came with it recommending that it NOT go in the dishwasher? Don't know, can't

Oooohh....Big Brother time again... can't wait...I'm already switching to easily pleased/mindless/do not disturb throughout the summer mode... ;-)The house looks particularly uncomfortable. They are going to be so ratty, cramped and miserable in that bedroom in no time at all...oh, what fun. There's bound to be a real bedroom in there somewhere...Only one housemate who's had a breast

Oh dear, another embarrassing bishop story, in The Times -Bishop compares those who ignore climate change to Josef Fritzl .It reminded me of Lionel, a rather desperate Kirby salesman who likened the designers of Hoover and Electrolux machines to rapists, because the products weren't up to the job, but they sold them anyway - but in Lionel's defence, he never was a bishop. The bishop's comment,

Here we are in Paris, then, enjoying the coffee and the traffic. Just checking... SJ spotted these postcards..fabulous, I had to have a set, too. I didn't take any photos along the Champs-Élysées, nor of the Louvre - nor of the Arc de Triomphe, though we saw all those, too. I was somewhat disconcerted by the vastness of Paris, which was even more awesome than the loyalty of the French towards
