Hi,
Thanks for this wonderfull application.
Is it possible to implement multiple default applications? This could be quite usefull.
Sometimes i unpack an application, other times i archive it, other times install it, other times i upack after capturing url, other times i also need to capture version... i know i can have several templates to save these settings but if i could have several default jobs that would make it even better.
Thanks in advance,
Josh

Hi
Is it possible to add support for other download sites, which are similar to Filehippo (without the use of a template)
Actually I have filepony.de on mind, which seems very similar to filehippo.com to me!
I'm asking, because I like the ease to add files using filehippo, instead writing long regexes and scripts to achieve that with many other sites!

Just wondering:
Is there an easy way to rename categories, because it's really annoying having to go to each app and rename the category individually.
An idea I was thinking about was to have "Rename category" or "Change category" in the right-click menu.
I love this app!
Thank you,
Kris

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or not....
but when I press cancel, it takes quite a while for Ketarin to actually cancel what it's doing.
Actually, what seems to happen is that it stops when it finishes looking for the updates to the apps that were updating when I pressed cancel.
Could we have it to 'immediately' cancel please?
Thank you,
Kris

First, I'd like to say that thank you very much for this useful app!
It has saved loads of my time!
To save even more time, would it be possible to have an "enable selection" and a "disable selection" in the right-click menu?
This is because I find it really annoying to go to each app and enable/disable them individually.
It'd be so much easier if I could just select the apps that I want to enable/disable and just enable/disable them all at once!
I've also noticed that if I right-click on a disabled application and press "Update", it works.
However, when I select more than 1 disabled app and press "update", it doesn't work. I'd like this to work please, because (I know it sounds silly) but once in a while, I check for updates for my disabled apps.
Thank you very much!
Kris

For instance, 2 options usefull for me are:
- Paste (normal).
- Paste removing the GUID.

Hi!
It would be very handy if Ketarin would replace the userdefined variables not only in the download URL, but also in the path to where the updates are downloaded, so you can use f.e. a version-number in the filename.
I managed to find and change the corresponding line in the source code, but it would be great, if Ketarin would support this innately and maybe even store the last filename, so the "delete previously downloaded file"-function keeps working if you use variables in the filename.

Hi!
It would be great if you could add a possibility to translate Ketarin using a language file instead of having to edit the source-code (and you can't even publish your translation as you would have to remove the icons from the program due to their license).

Import From a Local db Instead of an xml file.
Ability to select the db at runtime to allow using of multiple db.

There should be an option for defining a file path for jobs.db, so it can be used as portable application.

I have recently set myself a Windows Home Server and have moved my Ketarin to run from it. Using WHSAlert application I've set it up to post alerts on application updates through WHS Console. However it seems not possible to know whether the application has failed to download.
Would it be possible to have a "Run command on application download failure" (one in global settings, and overridable per app entry) and {error_text} (or something like this) variable so that I can run an alert indicating that app {appname} failed to download due to {error_text}.

Hi,
A button (into the status bar?) or an option in the main menu to toggle the autoscroll behavior when looking for updates would be nice.
When a long list of application is updating and you want to access a job at the beginning, it can be ... very funny
:D

There happens a time when the webmaster decides to totally re-layout the site and you have to update your app entry. Or two. Or 20 of them. Which all relied on a single template. Currently, as far as I know, the quickest way is to simply delete an entry and re-create it from scratch. Not really convenient.
Now I remember the discussion from some time ago about implementing such a feature. Someone from out template masters (:P) have said that he tweaks template for most app entries so just auto-updating them won't work.
While I personally like the method of just keeping template XMLs in some folder and when I update them all entries update automatically I understand that it won't work for everyone. What I suggest is that we have an ability to simply paste updated template XML. All placeholders which match current values take default values from current entry. Otherwise you fill in the blanks manually. While not the most quickest way to update your 100+ entries it sure beats the re-creation of each entry by hand.
Then again, I do love the auto-update version too :)

"CommandLine Parameters" option to be used when opening a file, one commandline per file
possibility to select more then one file to "run and wait" in sequence and with commandline parameters

I just had a few thoughts of functionality improvements I would like to see:
Reporting - It would be nice to have a report (possibly HTML) automatically created at the end of an multi-update process that list all the "Applications" that have been updated (and possibly include custom version variables). Kinda like having a running changelog of the user's repository in an HTML file.
Archiving - It would also be nice to have the ability to archive an old "Application" (ie. copy/move it to an "Archive" folder) if a new version is detected and before it is downloaded.
Just my 2 cents (a penny each) :) ...
Great App!! I love it!!! 108 Apps & counting!

Hi there. I just started using the software, and I have a few requests.
Custom global commands. Just like you can create your own global variables, let us create our own commands. This would be useful for me at least for applications that are portable but download as a zip. Instead of having to add
7za.exe x -o"{category}\{appname}" "{file}"
for each of those apps.
Another feature request I have is the location of the database. I'd prefer for the entire thing to be portable, and not tied to the logged in user. Could we please get this setting?
Another setting would be for a default download setting. Instead of having to add a location for every single app we download (useful when importing from internet database), we could set a default location.
Thanks in advance if you add any of these requests.

I have been experimenting with the 'check no download' feature and a Change Indicator Variable (CIV) scrape, so Ketarin can visually alert me on those apps which may have new versions, that I must go download manually (because I do not yet have a valid download URL to use in Ketarin).
There is a small obstacle to using Ketarin to provide 'alert only' in this way. The URL field is required in Ketarin, but in these cases I don't have a download URL...
Ketarin can be 'tricked' with a download URL to some irrelevant file, such as a small GIF from some website. Ketarin must download this file once. Thereafter, assuming the download file is available and unchanged, the server vs. disk file comparison is essentially taken out of the equation, leaving just the CIV scrape for Ketarin to monitor for this app.
But instead of using a 'trick', would it be possible to have the following enhancement?
1. If the app is marked 'check no download' AND a CIV is provided, the download URL may be left blank if desired
2. When update is issued against the app, and download URL is blank, Ketarin skips the file checking portion, using only the CIV processing to alert to possible new version
Thoughts? Thanks as always for consideration.
Best Regards,

Hi Flo,
I was wondering what the chances are of adding an option for applications in the list to check for updates and notify but not actually download the update.
The reason this would be useful is for applications that are very large. As an example I've added a number of linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora etc.), but if there is an update, i may not be in a location where I really want to be downloading 700 megs worth.
Although I realise there is an option to "Only check for updates". It would be good if there was an option in the same area as the Enabled checkbox called something like "Don't automatically download".
Currently I have all of my large apps disabled but that means I have no idea if there are any updates.
Alternatively perhaps a file size check option that is triggered if the file size is over a set amount could be incorporated into the general settings. Maybe with a prompt to the user asking if they want to download now or skip. Or it could simply skip and alert once all applications have been processed.
Hope this makes sense

FIRST OF ALL:
.. i am not a code programer. So i was very happy with ketarin and filehippo.
Easy to use, insert, update and download. 2nd next easy i found downloading
a pad file and combine it with ketarin.
USED:
I tried several of those templates... but it seems, that many of those file distributors are
seeing a breach in security and maybe you are being accused of attacking websites
or you are banned for downloading after all.
IDEA:
Shouldn´t the direct way from the primary release site of the Inventor be a better way,
then trying a workaround of the major sites for downloading freeware with templates?
Well, i found those (maybe interesting) sites for published files with direct path to the pad.
and a search engine for each to find those precious pad-files at all...
http://en.padfile.info/
PADFILE.INFO
http://paddatabase.com/
PADDATABASE
http://www.asp-shareware.org/pad/repository/user/search.php?Home=user
ASP PADSEARCH
REQUEST:
* a file or datebase search for those sites would help finding pad-files,
why don´t try to integrate them into the program for searching new freeware.
* please publish more specific ketarin-xml files directly for merge to your own repository at home
on this site, because the templates don´t rock at all or only for a short timeperiod.
