If there is only one thing that Lenovo are good at, it has to be design and the new laptops in the ThinkPad range are no exception. There are three models coming out, but in this case we will be looking at the ThinkPad S431, it’s a mid range machine with touch screen display that works perfectly with the Windows 8 operating system. At this early stage, we have little to go on when it comes to specs and features, but basically, the ThinkPad S431 is a fourteen inch laptop, with Intel Core power, 500 GB HDD and a battery pack that should keep going all day long. Now that sounds like a machine designed for the business user, but it will equally serve the student and home user too.

As for the details on this new ThinkPad, the S431 comes with a 14 inch touch screen in a 13 inch frame with LCD display and ultra thin bezels for a smooth look. It is going to be running the latest Windows 8 operating system and will be powered by the latest low power Ivy Bridge version of the Intel 3rd Generation of Core processors. There will be up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 500 GB mechanical hard disk drive (HDD) for storage purposes.

Other features will include the essential Gigabit Ethernet LAN, two fast connecting USB 3.0 ports, Lenovo’s One Link Technology for easy connection with the ThinkPad One Link Dock, a six row back lit keyboard, a 20.5 mm frame and up to nine hours of battery life.

Lenovo say that the fourteen inch ThinkPad S431 will become available in early June 2013 and it will come with a starting price of around $700, which is not bad when you consider that this smart looking laptop with all of the specs that you would expect from a major manufacturer such as Lenovo.

This is the latest offering from ASUS it’s the Zenbook UX51VZ which is based on the N56V model, but with some clever design and use of SSD’s they have been able to slim it down a notch or two making it very attractive with the shiny aluminium finish. The Zenbook UX51VZ is a cool looking machine with a 15.6 inch screen, using the Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia graphics and running on Windows 8. However, this laptop is going up against Toshiba and the Apple MacBook Pro, so it had better have something more to offer the buyer.

It is probably safe to say that not many people would have heard of the computer brand Inhon, but that is all about to change because the Taiwan based computer maker has just released details for the Blade 13 Carbon laptop it weighs in at just 1.9 pounds and is an amazing 10.7 mm thick! Before the launch of the Blade 13 it was the Lavie X by NEC that claimed to be the thinnest laptop in the world at just 12.8 mm, but the Blade 13 beats that by a massive 2 mm and yet this wafer thin laptop still manages to boast some serious specs too, which is just crazy when you think of the size of it.

inhon carbon 04 19 13 01 Inhon offers the slim Blade 13 Carbon laptop

The Blade 13 comes with a smart thirteen inch screen that offers a 1080p display with a 1600 x 900 of pixel resolutions. It will be running on the latest Microsoft Windows 8 operating system and there is a choice of processor from the Intel Core i5 or Core i7 CPU range. Other features include the 4 GB of RAM memory and a choice from either a 128 GB or a 256 GB solid state drive (SSD) for storage purposes.

dsf6846 Inhon offers the slim Blade 13 Carbon laptop

That is all of the details that are available at the moment, but the question that is going to be on everyone’s lips, will be just how slim can a laptop go or is 10 mm the limit? Maybe we will have to wait for the next generation laptops to see, but less than 10 mm is a very small space to house all of that hardware required to make a decent laptop.

dsf6847 Inhon offers the slim Blade 13 Carbon laptop

Once this slim laptop goes on sale buyers can expect to be forking out around $1,400 for it when it is launched in June. But when you consider the specs and features available that is probably a fair price to pay for it, if you can get your hands on one outside of Taiwan.

It has been a while since we had a new ultrabook to talk about; it seems that the big brands already have their models out. But here is a new one from the Japanese based Tsukumo brand, it is part of the eX.computer note range and it goes under the N140J-710A / E product name. Being an ultrabook this machine has to comply with the rules as laid down by Intel and as such there is a fourteen inch display, Intel Core i7 processor and graphics, as well as the 256 SSD for storage purposes. This is a great little computer and is well worth the $870 price tag.

The Japan based Unitcom have been at it again and this time they are looking at the gaming market for their new Progress GT CL7X1W8-N67MX! It has a large 17.3 inch screen, Intel Core i7 processor and the graphics are coming from the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670MX card. So this is fully equipped to cater to the needs of the gamer and there is room for improvement too, although this is a move that is going to be a rather expensive addition to the entry price of around $1,500. So we know that Unitcom are hoping to impress gamers with the Progress GT CL7X1W8-N67MX, but what does this have to offer the buyer that other gaming laptops do not have! Well there is the huge 17.3 inch screen with a wide LCD full HD non-glossy display offering a 1920 x 1080 of pixel resolutions.

It is going to be running on the latest Microsoft Windows 8 operating system and powered by the highly capable Intel Core i7-3630QM Quad Core processor that offers 2.40 GHz to 3.4 GHz with turbo boost and a 6MB Smart Cache. There is support for the Mobile Intel HM77 Express chipset and those all important graphics come from the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670MX 3 GB installed supporting the NVIDIA Optimus Technology. The internal memory is 8 GB of 204PIN SODIMM PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz and there is a 500 GB 2.5 inch 5400 rpm SATA2 8 MB cache hard disk drive (HDD) for storage purposes. While for communications there is the 1000 Base Gigabit wired LAN, Bluetooth and the Wireless LAN support for the IEEE 802.11 b / g / n.

Other features include the card reader for SD / MMC / MEMORYSTICK, a single standard style USB port, PDIF output, eSATA & USB 3.0 combo connector, Mini IEEE1394a, Headphone & Speaker out, built-in stereo speakers and a built in 2.0 mega pixel web camera. As for the size, this laptop measures up at around 41.8 mm to 45.4 mm (H) x 412 mm (W) x 276 mm (D) and it weighs in at 3.9 kilos with the battery installed. Unitcom have priced the Progress GT CL7X1W8-N67MX gaming laptop to start from around $1,500, which is a nice price for a cool gaming laptop.
