The KDE on Windows team today announced the immediate availability of "Caizen", (a.k.a KDE 4.3.0) a new stable Release of
KDE.
This release contains many bug fixes and some new applications. The binary packages could be installed with the installer by using the version "stable 4.3.0" (or "stable latest"). In case you are upgrading your KDE installation, deselect the skip basic settings checkbox on the first installer page and press next until you are guided to the release settings page, where you can choose the required version.
In this release major changes have been made to the infrastructure used by KDE on Windows: The msvc-packages have moved to the Visual Studio 9.0-compiler and packages for MinGW 4.4.0 have also been added. This will also mean that if the MinGW 4.4.0 packages show that they are stable enough, MinGW 3.4.5 packages might be discontinued in one of the coming releases.

Again we have been very quiet but not lazy for the last months. KDE on windows has evolved quite a bit, with more packages available,
some nasty bugs fixed and hopefully more stability
Available for download are: kdebase-apps, kdebase-workspace, kdeedu, kdegames, kdegraphics, kdenetwork and kdewebdev. Some of packages haven't made it today and will arrive tomorrow: this will be kdeedu and kdebase-apps on msvc and kdeutils on both compilers. Try out with the latest kdewin-installer.

Though we haven't been unproductive you have not heard of us for quite a long time.
To change that I want to announce KOffice 2.0 Alpha 7 which is the first ever KOffice binary release on the Windows platform. Thanks to the help of the KOffice Team
and of course thanks to the KDE on Windows developers, all compile errors have been fixed so that we can package and testing can be started.
As I said last time Christian tries to package the KDE packages every week and right now the snapshot 4.0.74 have been built. You can download those and the KOffice Alpha binaries with the current kdewin-installer.

A lot has happened since the last post:
The support for KDE mirrors has gotten better and better (at least if the directories stay on the servers) and the installer is currently existing in the version 0.8.6. Amarok got its own package (though it might not get updated as often).
From now on we will use the official snapshot sources that are provided on the official mirrors and build our packages on top of them. An extra target has been added in the emerge scripts which represents the snapshots. That means as well that our package cycle will be aligned to the snapshot release cycle. The first packages have come out already this week (version number 4.0.60) with the next ones to come in a few days (version 4.0.61). As always you can download them with the installer (please only use the latest version)
Another important thing is that for emerge I am looking for "Maintainers". The idea behind this is that I or Christian cannot build all of KDE on Windows anymore, but there are a lot of people around which build "their" package anyway so I am trying to get a list of people together who work on which part of KDE. To become a Maintainer, please write a mail to our mailing list and put your name into the techbase wiki page

We currently have a lot of stuff todo: KDE 4.1 gets more and more stable for us, errors get fixed and besides more and more packages
will work in the next weeks plus KDE 4.0.1 gets tagged today. Most of the KDE development happens in /trunk currently but some of the work gets backported to 4.0.X branch.
To get a stable release for users, I(see below) decided tonight that it is time that KDE on Windows gets a stable branch too. The stable release can be build with emerge via the new packages in the kde-4.0 category. Further Releases of this branch will be put into the targets of each package. The category kde will stay at trunk. Same applies to the release of 4.1 in the middle of this year.
The KDE on Windows team is not only working on the port of KDE applications and libraries but also on the Windows Installer application: The Kdewin-Installer is supposed to be the preferred way to install KDE applications on Windows. It entered beta-phase only recently so that is ready for dealing with all the screaming users that will overrun us for 4.1 ;-). Please test it thoroughfully and use the builds from over here. (SE)

As the question arises again and again: We as the KDE on windows team, do not recommend one compiler over the other.
We support MinGW as well as the two Microsoft Compilers from Visual Studio 2003 and 2005. Two additional ones will be added in the next time: the Technology Preview 4.2.1 of MinGW and the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.
I hope that makes it clear to everybody ... (SaroEngels - SE)
