Composed with luminous synths and melodic vocal lines, the U.K. trio's latest album is an unabashed venture into warped pop music. Its pace is uncharacteristically rapid, its chords buoyant, yet there remains an eerie quality to Darkstar's music.
Darkstar's new album, News From Nowhere, comes out Feb. 5.

Arone Dyer and Aron Sanchez maneuver their homemade instruments through songs that rumble and clamor and grind with unmistakable electricity. For the duo, strange instrumentation is merely a means to a raucous, hypnotic, alluring end.
Buke and Gase's new album, General Dome, comes out Jan. 29.

It was around this time last year that Leonard Friend dropped onto our radar with his Lynyrd Frynd EP, bringing an eclectic fusion of R&B, pop, and synth along with him. He's now back with a new single, "Middle Of The Night," which expands upon these genres, adding even more zest to the mix with pulsing beats and smooth melodies.

Integration of Indian music, "three seconds and you know who's playing" saxophone, double-necked guitar and all that it implies, homegrown approaches to composition: It's all here. But the alto saxophonist's new album surfs on this information overload without drowning in it.
Rudresh Mahanthappa's new album, Gamak, comes out Jan. 29.

Pretty and eccentric, ornate but never cluttered, Blaudzun's songs alternately boom and swoon, even when they bypass strings in favor of a warm, simple sound. Dutch singer-songwriter Johannes Sigmond, who records as Blaudzun, has a voice ideally suited for grandiosity.
Blaudzun's U.S. debut, Heavy Flowers, comes out Jan. 29.

The band's sound shape-shifts frequently through the worlds of brittle indie-pop, Nuggets-era retro psych-rock, vintage soul and something more alien. II traffics in, and thrives on, its air of strangeness and unknowability, but that makes its moments of shimmery warmth that much sweeter.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra's new album, II, comes out Feb. 5.

Bad Religion, the great long-running California thesaurus-toting punk bashers, have released umpteen billion albums, and they’ve all been, at the very least, pretty good. The next one, True North, comes out next week, and we’ve already posted the self-explanatory “Fuck You.” But for a bunch more variations on that ever-durable melodic-hardcore pummel, click below to stream the entire album.

Life hasn't been a cakewalk for Austin Carlile. The 25-year-old vocalist was one of the founding members of Attack! Attack!, however, he suddenly exited the band in 2008 just as they were starting to break. Not one to take defeat lying down, Carlile immediately announced he was starting a new band called Of Mice & Men. The band has gone on to become one of the biggest bands in the metalcore scene and, most recently, landed Carlile on the cover of the Alternative Press "Most Anticipated” issue.
We caught up with Carlile at his home in Huntington Beach, Calif., as the band are in the midst of writing and demo-ing for their third album, which he described as an amalgamation of his previous releases that would feature "plenty of melodic, singing choruses as well as heavy bridges."

Way back in the olden times of November 2012, Australian band Milk Teddy released Zingers a ramshackle guitar pop album that owes as much to the, um, ramshackle guitar pop scene in New Zealand as it does to The Feelies and the sort of mindboggling, hey-check-out-what-I-made-before-you-even-got-up-this-morning vibe that so many bands hope to reach but rarely do.
Basically, Zingers is an album for moping around your house. It feels designed to be re-discovered (or, if you’re like me and “late” to the party, just discover it for the first time). Do you ever have a day where you’re flipping through your own records and you come across something that you haven’t listened to in awhile and it sounds like a revelation? At once both familiar and completely new. Zingers can be that album. The guitars jangle, the vocals sound half-asleep, and when the harmonica on album closer “Come Around” kicks in, everything feels exactly as it should be.
