I've implimented a new comment strategy, removing the possibility to comment anonymously but ANYONE can still comment, either with a Sugar or Facebook account. (Well that's most people.) Recently I've gotten a few troll comments wth unsavorable links posted, and I hope this new solution can be a decent fix. Let me know how you like these two options.

If you run a really nice blog that can't be found OnSugar, you can leave a signature, but if it's sketchy, your whole comment could be deleted.

I hope this works out for the nice, real readers and/or fashion / blog peers.

This is not a renewal of the old joke, although it's only partially true. You know it's more fright than funny, partly because some famous new designers don't even design. It seems every singer, or not, wants to be a designer. And then famous non-singers think they can sing. Why does everyone whose name is up in lights think they can design?

Fashion bloggers, too, are crafters, entrepreneurs and even designers. But we work hard to forge our own ways, usually sewing to boot. This is what Ella is doing, but I won't talk too much about my line that's merely upcoming. ;-)

Back to those spoiled celebs...

A while ago Lindsay Lohan debuted her leggings collection, under her own label, and recently started collaborating with another. Now her mom, Dina Lohan, has previewed her shoe collection. It's named after their famous surname in an oh-so mindless, embarrassing take on a pun, "Shoe-Han".

And you guessed it, Dina won't be designing, only having some part in the creative direction. Oh boy...

The name just makes me think of more puns relating to the slang term, "ho". It can be combined with so many other words that would suit Dina. In a way it makes talking about, if not wearing, "her" shoes oh so versatile.

Now for that peep-toe boot that wonderful role model tried on for the cameras - it's no more stylish than a cast.

You'll be sure not to purchase a pair for your own mommy dearest this Spring, when the line debuts around Mother's Day.

Since July I've been working hard on finally getting my dream really going. Since August, I believe, I've stopped seeing writing & blogging as my job and am spending an insane amount of time setting up the business for my upcoming handbag brand.

I don't want to drop Pursed Lips entirely though, even if it were to remain fairly stagnant for some time. (I have thoughts on hiring another blogger in the distant future). I know we've made a lot of changes this year, and a lot of direction turns since the summer began, probably. But in order to make things easy on myself and keep PL flowing more - I'm proposing another content direction move.

I can blog more on topics of crafting and building a business now than I can on fashion from a fan or consumer perspective. I'm pretty much solely in the producer arena now. However this blog has always been about fashion relative to its beauty, flattering perspectives, etc. It hasn't ever been about designing, even though that's been in the writer.

So I know a lot of old or current readers wouldn't care for the change, but a lot might. There will still be some commentary on looks, etc. If we make this switch, and category pages linked at the top should remain for easy filtering. Since "style" as opposed to design or business will for now most certainly not be published frequently, all the change would mean is more posts from a different angle.

My blogs have never been large, so I know this amazing change in my life should make my readers happy for me (I mean I don't need to lie and say people will die without my blogging).

But will you turn away from this new type of blog? What do you think the "mass" will do - exit? Or could I bring a different level of value to both the fashion and crafting community? There will be benefits for me to switch, but will my readers be 100% new? This is why I am posting this poll.

Thanks very much for reading!

What would you like to read on this blog?

Do not do it like Sienna did here and pair the leotard-or-whatever with pantyhose that have a different color near the crotch. That signals underwear, and not the cute kind. This is not Madonna-level under-outer-wear chic.

Perhaps we should leave this to the diva, Gaga, no?

The Cut bloggers asked Anna Wintour what she thought of the pantsless trend. The infamous Vogue editor replied,

"I will never answer that question."

(As posted to their Twitter.)

We think it should be considered "wearing a skirt", like it used to, but we're classic here. (Or is that classy?)

(To the right: Anna Wintour with Sienna Miller, the stylish actress being the one wearing no pants, obv. Via Joobeelicious.)

A new hair style is one of the best ways to do trends. Why? Hair is usually changed every couple to a few months, that means you can update your style with the season, and also not be late to the game. You don't have to worry about Winter when Autumn is approaching, either - and that allows for some ease and a lot of fun.

Of course trends never have to be drastic, especially with hair. But what else is so easy about looking current with your tresses is you can wear anything, and depending on the styling-time, always look fresh on "top". If you want to be instantly recognized as stylish, whether you work in fashion or just like that appearance, this change can make that happen.

But there need be "signature" hair looks for a season, and not just the typical clothing/accessories stuff. And of course you've got to either know the 'do trends or research, so I'm doing that for you now.

Autumn 2009 Hair Cut Trends:

- Whether one has straight or curly hair, above-shoulder lengths that are drastically longer toward the front are popping up everywhere.
- Right now is a safer time (maybe) to dare for bangs - simply because they're in!
- Keep it long:

What about color? I wouldn't suggest switching color for a trend, but while we're still recessionistas, I'm calling the go-natural a trend. Unless you hate your color or your grey, I think born-with is always most beautiful.

No, this "rockin'" fashionista is not Ashlee Simpson getting another MTV reality show and a fashion line (does she have one already? Oh she will - of t-shirts or of whatnots). She just happens to be a lookalike but yes, she is filling the fashionable shoes of sorts of Lauren Conrad on the network.

This is Jazmin Whitley, emerging (obviously about to become famous) fashion designer, not rockstar. And she has a new show coming to MTV; "House of Jazmin". I supposed the former music station at least likes rockstar style? That skirt is nearly identical to a Forever 21 item I thought looked so "on stage". But anyway... Jazmin Whitley's line is actually called, Li Carli. Inexplicably non-eponymous - I mean her (real??!!) name is Jazmin (what ze-flaire) and she went with something that sound's like another chica's name?

I mean for me, I even go by "Ella" partly because too many heard "Lauren-Noelle" and asked me if there was no "L" in "Lauren". LE SIGH. Ha ha.

But the thing is, the show is named after her name. Guh.

Apparently "Li Carli" is her grandparents' last name. (By the way, mine have the name Hominsky, sounds so ... professional.)

Do I sound jealous that this 20-year-old girl was picked for this major show on design? ... First in what will likely be a series of rotating stars, like those "love" disasters the channel puts out. Nah, how could I be chosen at this point, after all? No really.

Maybe I'm just annoyed because she seems really unintelligent (ok, moronic) in her interview to W. What'd she say? Oh "like ..." x21.

The show will likely be painful. And unlikeable. And that could bring the jealousy. Although I think that's what reality shows are supposed to be. No I mean the painful part.

Igh. I would so love to check it out just for the style factor. I watched The Hills just to try to catch glimpses of LVs, Chanels and Balenciagas. Sometimes. (No I only watched it sometimes.) So maybe it's just a good thing that I don't have cable - not until the big Fall season starts. I'm saving money.

Because I don't have such a big, well-paying job.

Yet. ;-)

Can't you tell I'm in a great mood? I'm so happy.

OK I'm a dork. :-)

We've gathered allllll the photos fit-to-print that we could of the new Chanel purse collection, "Coco Cocoon" coming out in October. That's October 10th 2009, precisely. It's the same line as featured in the Lily Allen advertisements, but we've posted her pictures in another gallery.

Enjoy!

@ First Look: The Twilight inspired line coming to Nordstrom would fit in more at Delia's than with the store's mid-range/upscale image. Sadly, it's also too alone suited to the megahit's wild youthful fan base than anything more in tune with vampires or older admirers of the film and genre.

"Team" Tees Preview:

Right before and after the original film debuted, "Twilight" was also what a vamp-y trend-merely-film-inspired was called amongst the do-it-themselves fashion creators. Etsy.com was filled with Victorian-era inspired beauties like frilly wrist cuffs and luxe oldschool gothic jewelry (Read: no Hot Topic).

Example products from Fall 2008 by Little Sparrow Nest and Talula. Click images to view their respective shops.

But just like that keyword was thrown about, Sparkly Vampire mania has hit, and punched, and bitten  - extremely hard. Now the "underground" beings inspire further "Tra L.A. L.A. Land" carefree attitudes with this oh-so Junior's style.

The "glitter" from Hollywood glitz is spreading. Aside from the Nordstrom Junior's Department styles, the most recent evolution of this living trend has surfaced online from former-or-semistill-undergrounds, the indies...

Example Etsy.com clothing "Twilight" search

Another sad(ish) truth of today is that the movie-fangirlishness has brought graphic tees to Etsy as well, not that that's entirely bad and the items & slogans are not bad - or, beauty being in the eye of the beholder, at least they're not of popular-teenshop aesthetic. Fortunately, a lot of the designs are pretty dark - a stark contrast to this mass market promotion-in-sheep's-cotton-clothing at the department store.

At least we can help show fans that they have choices.

If your fashion style has a sweet tooth for notebook-doodles over Edward Cullen, by all means, shop mainstream.

If you crave something just a little more juicy or bittersweet, then do check out Etsy or other indie venues/shops. You can probably even do some hunting and find some "vamp" items, still.

Karl can put Chanel on Lily Allen, but can we really put Lily Allen in Chanel, if you know what I mean? What I mean is, could this makeover stick on the girl who refuses to not sunbathe topless what-seems daily in her classless crusade nearing as bad as Amy Winehouse?

That is why Lily Allen as a model for Chanel surprises me. Yes, Lily is a huge Chanel fan, uh--so are witless teenagers. The difference is this recording artist has money, and those teens aren't truly carrying Chanel with their pink cambon totes.

So what I mean is anyone can be a fan, but that doesn't mean The Man will "fan" back. The singer makes a cute model of some sort---Allen is quite beautiful and a great writer with a great mind, but ... girl needs work.

Or - usually. One couldn't tell from these amazing photographs.

Here Allen advertises and sports Chanel's upcoming handbag collection, "Coco Cocoon" due this October 10th (2009).

Stay tuned for a gallery devoted to the bags next week!

Exactly, do is this bra tells.
Exactly, do is this
bra tells.

We had a DO do and now we have a don’t give (just late enough to ensure you won’t, and if a guy reading somehow did, go get a designer bag or something instead. To the mall! - STAT! ;-) )

What is this definite don’t? A collection of light-up bras from Enlighted … which we think are only for the neanderthal men and legally/nearly blind who might need a little help. OK probably not even then.

enlighted-bras

Guys, if you get your girl something this tacky, well, you won’t be seeing her underthings or what’s under those things … maybe for a while. Sorry to say. Also, men, if you want to get your lady some lingerie, keep it classy, or perhaps get her a hefty Vickie’s gift card tucked in her greeting card (along with other gift) and/or a shopping spree. Make this something she’s sure to truly want herself, and if you spend a lot, she’ll be more gracious.

No, it’s not that you need to dish out tons of dough along with the sweet, but it’ll help you avoid looking like 100% horndog if there’s more in it for her. Women love sex, but to us, this is about the L word. (And not a lesbian joining you.) We want sex almost as much as you on Valentine’s, but we’ll love you better if you do the same first!

Valentine’s Day can be something both sexes can enjoy and agree upon. Men just need to give in a little or a lot and maybe, just maybe, the part of the night you actually enjoy will have something you’ve dreamed of … after she’s gotten hers. (In both ways.)

Oh and to magpie girls , you don’t need this bra, your guy’s already looking. ;-)

*Updated to add a poll*

Here is Gisele Bundchen on the cover of Italian Elle (the magazine, no relation to moi) holding this shoe that reads, ever so amusingly to me; “This is not a shoe.”

gisele-b_elle-italia_not-a-shoe

Aha! I saw it and thought, It was I, Ella who was the one who said “sneakers are not shoes” in my rules (and again). It was even (almost) famously quoted in a blog in a blurb about my wit. *grin*

But what is this about, really? I should not fail to investigate a perhaps different meaning. Is it a phone? (Held to the model’s ear.) Or is it a shoe with some other, err, positive message?

The latter is true. This sneaker is a Converse, and it’s actually a part of Product Red (the AIDs fighting charity). Le Sigh, it’s positive. The other side reads, “it’s a mania” … which sound so damned rock & roll and protest, but actually is “just” the artist’s last name. Gee, that’s as bad as me claiming it’s about my fashion rules. OK it’s different, I know - but Mania, you are no Louis Vuitton (although I wouldn’t be surprised they invite you to collaborate).

converse_not-a-shoe

Look, you could claim it’s a dead horse race (mis-heard lyric) for all I care - at least we agree—it’s not a shoe!

Here’s an activity (and possible piece of a gift/gift for a guy) totally fun for both chicks and dudes late next Saturday; Valentine’s Night. Way more important (to men) than V-Day, by the way. Play a sexy, strippy game leading on to your big finale. And what better game than one involving sweet, sweet chocolate with your sweet? “Strip Chocolate” is a couple’s board game which forces off an item of clothing each losing play, with the added bonus of chocolate and cherry body frosting. The sweet and delectable flavors puts a little romance back into the slow strip tease of sexual fun. Besides, what if you win and he gets nekked first? ;-)

strip-chocolate

Word of warning: don’t get a girlfriend something sexy for a gift unless it’s only a small part. Oh and load up on at least one chick-filled (but with you by her side) entirely romantic activity, before all the sex. (And if you mess up gifting in a bad way, you may even lose out on makeup sex. Ouch. Not on the night of kink–I mean love.) I do doubt the dudes would mind super sexually-charged presents though.

Strip Chocolate, the game, is sold by unCommon Goods for $30. (Pretty recession safe portion of a date/gift, though note the candy part of the game can get used up.)

vickies_tuxedo-babydoll

If we could only have a little paper version of Carrie Bradshaw to dress in printed apparel, but the 2-dimensional kind. A true version of a screen doll, Ms. Bradshaw — meet your once-and-future (Mr. Big) lover’s lover, this lingerie in full Bradshaw couture style.

carrie-b_oscar-dress

Although the gal about the city usually wore casual bras and even boy-style briefs, perhaps on her honeymoon in last year’s movie, this babydoll would have been perfection. Or pure poetry? And it’s not technically couture at all, even though it’s flowing with that level of style (for lingerie especially) — No, it’s from Victoria’s Secret; and sells for$88 , not cheap, but good for so chic.

Whether you’re the fashionista or perhaps the bride to a fellow bride (with its tuxedo vibe), could you be saying hello to your perfect lover-wear?
