It would seem the planned brand new $25 million studio at 30 Rock for The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon will not be happening after all.
The Hollywood Reporter says “NBC spent seven months working on plans that called for the combining of Studios 6B and 8G and turning them into a megastudio for Fallon as well as a showy theater for NBCUniversal to screen movies. Including a balcony, the facility would have fit an audience of 400″ but “recently was scrapped, says an insider, and now when Fallon becomes host of Tonight, he’ll have to settle for a mere $5 million renovation of Studio 6B, where he currently hosts Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”.
Works will begin this summer and for six months Late Night With Jimmy Fallon will move to Studio 6A until the new look Studio 6B is ready for The Tonight Show.
THR – “NBC Dumps $25 Million Jimmy Fallon NYC ‘Tonight Show’ Studio”
NBC have confirmed Seth Meyers will take over as host of Late Night next year.
Seth Meyers will succeed Jimmy Fallon as host when Fallon moves to take over the helm of The Tonight Show.
Meyers has become a mainstay at Saturday Night Live as was Jimmy before his move into late night chat.
The chairman of NBC Entertainment Bob Greenblatt said in a statement: “We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His years at SNL’s ‘Weekend Update’ desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the ‘Late Night’ franchise… on behalf of Steve Burke, Ted Harbert and Paul Telegdy, we couldn’t be happier that Seth and Jimmy Fallon will be continuing their careers at NBC after growing up in this network’s late night legacy”.
Seth Meyers joked “I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car” and said “12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice”.
It has also been confirmed Lorne Michaels – executive producer of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live producer – will be working with Seth on the new incarnation of Late Night along with producing The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon when it begins.
It hasn’t been announced the exact premiere date for Late Night With Seth Meyers but The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon should begin in February 2014 so all-new Late Night should start around the same time.
