This camera was used by Pros some time ago. It's good enough. It doesn't excell in low light (AKA High ISO photography). It actually sucks at that.
If you're interested in portrait photography, I'd look into getting another lens, though. Maybe a 50mm 1.8D (or G) or a 85mm 1.8D (or G) to start. A 35mm 1.8G lens would be great later on too.
Added: I was just looking at your stream. One thing to watch out for is your focus. I'm not sure if the focus being missed or the lens is soft.
