Richard Phillips (The Best Person to Admire)

Text:
In 2009, Captain Richard Phillips of the Maersk Alabama was on his way to Kenya with his crew of 20 people when his ship was hijacked by Somali pirates. Phillips ordered his crew to stay below decks while he tried to get the three pirates of his ship peacefully.
Although the crew was left alone, Capt. Phillips was kidnapped and taken hostage aboard one of his own lifeboats. For five days, the Navy SEALS tried to rescue him - and finally, the three pirates were shot down, while Capt. Phillips was rescued and brought back home to America.
I admire Capt. Phillips for his bravery and his taking responsibility as captain for the well-being of his crew. A movie about his experience, starring Tom Hanks, is currently in production. Phillips also wrote a memoir, A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea, which I'd like to read.
