Long story short…I found my way to Bacolod.
I arrived there at around 9am and there were only a few people on the streets and most establishments were still closed. So what was my first stop…? SM City Bacolod! hahaha…
After getting some breakfast, checking out the cathedral, and walking around the crowded plaza, I decided to stick around the main stage to watch the street dancing competition.
After a long wait and disappointments with the local tourism office for treating local residents of Bacolod as 2nd class citizens in favor of balikbayans and foreigners, the performances finally started.
There were 28 barangays (groups) scheduled to perform and after watching 10 groups, I was ready to leave. All the groups perform to the same song arrangement so after a while, it got tiring. Good thing that at about this time, my friends who were in town for Masskara were also ready to meet up. : )
For the rest of my short stay in Bacolod, we ate yummy food, went pasalubong shopping, and saw a bit more of the performances. By the time I had to leave and say goodbye, I really didn’t want to leave yet…I realized then that an overnight trip to a new place was too short. Next time, I should schedule my trips for at least 3 days/2 nights. Oh well, at least I finally got to experience the famous Masskara Festival.
