I saw her standing by the ramparts taking in the view and thought of inviting her over for a g&t. But she was with this other guy I can't stand. What if he insisted on joining us, bringing along his entourage of bouncers and shady operatives? Disaster! Besides, she was in a hurry because she had to be back home for the 8 p.m. Tagesschau. She is religious about that. So we just shouted auf wiedersehen and blew sad kisses to each other, thinking that it's time we stopped meeting like this.
