Early Predictions for 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' Forecast $155 Million Opening Weekend
BoxOffice.com released its long-range forecast for 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.' The site predicts that the third movie in the Hunger Games franchise will have an opening weekend of $155 million and a domestic total of $393 million. That opening weekend number would be slightly less than the previous Hunger Games film, 'Catching Fire,' which made $158 million during its November 2013 opening weekend. Nevertheless, that would still be the #1 opening of 2014, far outpacing the current domestic opening weekend leader, the latest 'Transformers' film, which had an opening weekend of approximately $100 million over the summer.
The site indicates that 'Mockingjay Part 1' has a lot of social media buzz and strong marketing working in its favor, along with the successes of the franchise's previous installments, but it also noted that strong performances by other films such as 'Interstellar' or 'Big Hero 6' could eat into 'Mockingjay' profits.
How big do you think Mockingjay will go?
